I went to the Dudley bike swap and rode 45ish miles. Bike swap was a waste of time but did a nice tristate ride in ct-ma-ri. My computer died yesterday so no pics, sorry. Weather was beautiful.

Finally got out again on the mtb - haven't ridden in 4 days thanks to work and my son's baseball so stress is building as Ramrod looms closer. Went for some climbing today. Was hoping to find a loop that's about 21 miles total - but no success. The roads in the hills are really confusing. Stumbled on a really nice cabin at one point and promptly turned around - didn't need to get shot.

So are many of the other wildflowers. I was heading to the top of the ridge in the background.



The last part of the big climbing - this was definitely easier than the first part, even with all the loose rocks.

Went to a local area called Quarry Park. 2 sq. miles of old granite quarry right on the edge of town. Loads of trails, hiking and trout fishing.

I was able to get in a 3 hour ride around the greater downtown Dallas area
on my Nishiki
and it turned out they were having the Comic-Con at the Dallas Convention Center
so I snapped a few pics of some of the characters I encountered outside.

I recognized all the characters other than the Miss Poseidon looking lady with the trident in her hand.

Did my 30mile round trip commute again, as on most days. Took the Masi today. Got a flat on the return about a mile from the house. I replaced the tube but in retrospect it probably would have been faster just to walk. I spent some time trying to find the hole in the tube so I'd know where in the tire to check for a sliver of glass. 'Twas a very small hole, but even small holes leak when pumped up enough.

Rode the bike to a nearby town to watch the "Tour of Norway" peloton race through. Some of the world tour teams like Katusha, Saxo Bank and Belkin is in it.

Well, I did my usual commute today. Nothing exceptional except that today was Drive Your Car To Work Twice Day. HEAVY traffic morning and afternoon. Maybe everybody was trying to get a head start on Memorial Day, which isn't until next Monday.

So many drivers are courteous and careful. But some are just thoughtless. Today they were getting irritated with each other. Fortunately I'm always well out of their way. (knock on wood)

I took some cell phone pictures to document my commute to work today
Leaving my neighborhood and crossing over the highway into North Bend just as at sun was beginning to rise over the Cascades

Between North Bend and Snoqualmie, a small herd of Elk freaked out and began to move away from me. It's funny, loud Logging trucks can pass by and they ignore them but a puny cyclist passes by and they freak out

I drop down into Fall City. Now comes the good stuff. Climbing up to the Issaquah Plateau. I stop before the climb just because the light is so pretty

Then enjoy the quiet climb up

I drop down off the Plateau into Issaquah then skirt around the south end of Lake Sammamish then take the cool little frail up to Eastgate in Bellevue

I ride up over the highway to get a view of where I came from 26 miles away at the foot of the mountains here in the background (the third row you see here)

I get to work and take the back entrance and stairway up to the 3rd floor where my gypsy camp is.

I rode my 30 mile round trip commute today on the old faithful Peugeot UO8 because it has lights and I don't mind it getting wet. I started out 20 min earlier than normal in a light mist, had a front wheel flat about a mile from the house, put in a new tube and continued on my way, took a slightly longer way in so as to avoid climbing the Concord Rd hill on the somewhat heavy UO8 with the generator load running, got to work about when I usually do.

I've about had it up to here with flat issues lately. This one was from something which cut near the middle of the tread on a 28mm Pasela TG with less than 100 miles on it. I pumped it up with a new tube and the tire seemed okay.

At least traffic was mostly quite light. Everybody did their driving for today yesterday.

On the bright side, on the return I stopped at Belmont Wheelworks and they replaced the defective Vittoria tube I had bought which had a leak at the base of the valve stem.

One surprising thing is I hit 30mph on the Concord Rd hill on the return even with the generator engaged. The old Peugeot hasn't gone that fast since somebody or other was in the White House, but I forget who.

Lamplight

Got out early this morning to avoid heavy traffic on Chuckanut Drive. Rode down into Skagit Valley just a bit, then turned north on Colony Mountain Road. Climbed and climbed until I found Wood Road, which is unpaved for a mile or two. This was very enjoyable, but I'm finding that even my 32mm tires are a bit more harsh than I'd prefer. Kept going until I took a break at Lake Sammish, then rode back to Fairhaven and called it a day. Total mileage was about 31.5, with about 1500 feet of climbing. I still suck at climbing, fyi.

I got out for a pretty decent ride today. I planned on riding out to the town of Index, but changed direction when I got to Monroe(due to looming dark skies and a few rain drops). I headed south along the Snoqualmie Valley and eventually to the town of Carnation. I saw a bunch of other folks riding bikes along the way. Most were in more of a hurry than me.

There's an organized ride on Monday(the Seven Hills of Kirkland). I believe I found and rode at least two of em today. I got lost up around Ames Lake, and probably circled the damned thing three times trying to escape it. I made over to Redmond for lunch and found some bar tape in a color I needed. Stuff seems to be more expensive in Redmond...

Anyhow, I made it home without getting rained on much, and NO flat tires(something that's been haunting me a lot lately.

We did 40 on the tandem, and took along a co-worker who hadn't ridden much lately but was a willing victim. Had a great time! It started out on wet roads but by the time we finished the sun came out and everything was like spring. Oh wait, this is spring.



Toward the end of the ride Gene got a snakebite flat. Otherwise that was the only real problem.

Drove up the Columbia River Gorge to begin in Mosier, OR. Rode through the Mosier Twin Tunnels, which is paved and goes 4.5 miles in one direction. No motorized vehicles allowed. This is part of the Columbia River Gorge Historic Highway.


Then drove about 24 miles west to continue in Cascade Locks. Same paved trail, this part was 2.5 miles one way. Unfortunately this is not one continuous trail, but there are many trailheads to different sections.


The day started out cloudy in the upper 60's and ended in dappled sun and about 70. It was a great day to get out of town. Stopped at a little local restaurant and ordered a "medium" soft serve cone and this is what I got:
