Thanks. Yes, it is a terrific car. I've had it for five years and driven it all over Europe during vacations. Thrashing it on the narrow winding roads of Corsica and Scotland were very memorable experiences. However, as a daily driver it sucks, so it wasn't getting the miles it needs to stay in shape. Time to let someone else have some fun with it.

Sorry for the small pic. Met drrobwave at 7:35 for a planned metric.
I goaded him into riding steel. His: Soma Stanyan. Mine: '85 Merckx Corsa Extra.
Meandered back roads into the wind first half, had a donut at a very poorly run Sheetz.
Meandered back, had a flat, fixed it and kept going.
Only other riders we saw were right behind us when I flatted.
It was a little warm; first hot day of summer, I guess.

Main take-away: 700x24's on 23m rims = smooth ride, even on chip seal.

I did my commute again today, about 32 miles total. The exceptional thing today was that I took the UO8. The weather was threatening showers so I waned a bike that could get wet. Plus, the UO8 has generator lights for the gray day. I ran them the full route both ways. Also I took a slightly longer route. The old faithful C&V workhorse ran just fine, thank you. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics.

Just under 6 hours for 84 miles with 6700 feet of climb. Used the cross bike with 40psi in 40c tires on pavement. Prep for the Almonzo. If I can finish those 103 gravel miles and 7000+ feet in 8-9 hours I'll be back in time for happy hour.

7 mile rd


7 mile road is the boundary between Cranston and Scituate RI. It was named 7 mile road because it was 7 miles from Fox Point in Providence. In 1660 the original proprietors of Providence decreed that all the land up to this line would be divided into individual farms and all the land to the west would be held in common (the outlands). Of course this didn't last, but this road was the original line of the inlands of the "Providence Plantations."

JJS, that snake looks like one I've seen along the Blackstone River. Don't recall its name but finding it online was easy.

Sharon is back! We did 37.27 on the tandem today. One result of today's ride is I'll be adding vertical grips to the ends of her stoker's bar. It was a great day to be on a bike. I think I counted 1,423,298 bikes in Carlisle alone. But I may have missed one or two.

We stopped for lunch at Great Brook State Forest in Carlisle and the ranger asked how things were going, said the tandem looked like part of us but he'd had noticed that I'd been riding solo lately. I guess one sign that we go there a lot is when the park ranger recognizes us.

I left the house and ended up riding from Kingston to Rosendale. The old cement mines were VERY refreshing today!

My wife and I rode over to Blowing Rock, NC. Absolutely perfect spring day ride. Stopped by Trout Lake for a snack and rest. Her Trek and my Miyata. Was trying out the rear rack I made for my Miyata.

My wife and I rode about 25 miles for Mothers Day.
Starting in Fall City, we ride on farm roads that loosely follow the Snoqualmie River. As we rode through the town of Carnation I had to stop and gawk at this super cool Ducati

Our main reason for riding this route was to admire the horses in the fields just North of the of the old Carnation Dairy Farm now called Camp Korey


Robin grew up on a wheat farm in Eastern Washington where she always had a horse to ride and loves them immensely. Today was her day. The weather was beautiful and we stopped often to admire the animals.

We rode the Snoqualmie Valley Trail back to Fall City.

My wife is starting to exhibit signs of becoming a biker chick and this makes me a happy guy.

I had to deliver a rather unusual car to San Francisco on Friday so I took my bike along on the delivery and rode back home.




You find all sorts of interesting things if you poke into the nooks and crannies in Golden Gate Park. Makes a nice backdrop for showing off the bike.




It was the "Annual Fine Day" at Seacliff and Land's End, both notorious for their fog. This is a view from outside the Gate on the San Francisco side.

I had an uneventful (which is good I guess) Mother's Day ride around my neighborhood loop on the Bianchi. But it was VERY windy so it was a workout to do 25 miles.
Haven't been riding for a while due to tendonitis in my right hand/wrist. Hurt myself on my car's tie rods, attempting to break the rusted bits free with limited tools and brute force. Something gave, but it was not a tie rod! Injuries take a lot longer to heal now that I'm C&V.
So, it was a relieving ride to detect no pain out on a road bike. It's good to be back in the saddle.

I drove up to Mt. Rainier National Park after work for a ride today. My wife had girls night out so this was my alternative for 'dinner'.

I parked just outside the park entrance and ducked under the gate to go climb up Cayuse Pass.


I finally found snow a mile or so from the pass


It got deeper quite quickly


At the top of Cayuse I snapped the customary photo of my bike in the jaws of the snow clearing machine

I ducked under the gate closure and headed up to Chinook Pass


I did not see another soul on either pass as I was climbing


Making headway, I am about 1/2 way up Chinook here looking back at my progress


There is still some work to do before this road is open for cars



I reach the top and snap a photo of the gateway to Eastern Washington


And then head back down


Where the best views of Mt. Rainier are to be seen

I finally met up with some riders coming up as I was heading back down from Cayuse. We talked briefly then I headed back to the car. Along the way I had to slow down to let some Elk cross in front of me then soon after, I saw a Coyote.
Not a bad for an evening ride.

This week I've climbed two passes in the Cascades, ridden around the Mediterranean coast, crossed the Golden Gate Bridge and ridden the Coastal Range northward. During my remaining free time I've crossed a few borders and climbed Mt. Ventoux several times. But when I plot the routes out on a map it looks like all I've climbed is Mt. Lexington/Woburn, and the only borders I've crossed are between Waltham, Arlington, Lexington, and Woburn. I don't understand. How come it looks so puny on a map?

A two Raleigh Professional ride yesterday. Neal Lerner brought his '72 up from Boston as part of his "14 bikes in 14 days" series. We noodled around the North Shore, saw some vintage boats in Essex and enjoyed some fried clams and a hotdog at Farnham's. It was 33 degrees cooler than the day before .. only in New England.
