Xmas eve ride and Bings Landing
Great day today in North Florida, 60's clear and sunny, lots and lots of NE winds but they can be an asset if you play it right.
I started at what is becoming a favorite biking place, Bings Landing in the Hammock area of Flagler County. Located right on A1A (nice bike lanes all along) there is ample free parking under a live Oak canopy and many miles of varied riding trails converge right here. You have A1A, a newly built off road area that has both nice easy trail rides and miles of technical trails as well. A short ride on A1A south brings you to the 65' high Palm Coast bridge and then into Palm Coast with many, many miles of perfectly maintained paved trails that meander along the water way and along the many lakes and ponds in Palm Coast. 14 miles up A1A is St Augustine and 11 miles south is Flagler Beach, a true Florida Beach town just a few feet from the ocean. When you get back to the car at Bings Landing there is a first class BBQ restaurant right in the parking lot with seats right on the waterway, there is also a snack bar and bike shop at the trailhead as well as a nicely appointed bike maintenance station right in the parking lot that has tools, a rack and a floor pump. This place is sweet. Here are a few shots of todays ride. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...severide15.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...severide10.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...aseveride6.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...aseveride1.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...aseveride2.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...severide14.jpg |
Thanks for all the inspiration friends! I've been riding the couch for the last week and a half with a nasty flu. I'm finally on the mend. This thread has been great for keeping my spirits up.

Christmas Eve was pretty nice here, low 40s and clear sky. It cooled down fast after dusk though.
Merry Christmas, Everyone http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...155500_076.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...160453_619.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...160702_991.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...164147_462.jpg |

Roger that, Roger, it got chilly quick, after sunset. :D I finally remembered where this road sign was, which is around maybe 3/4 of a mile down the hill from me, obviously on the B-G Trail. I dunno why, but something told me you guys needed to see the Wall of Death too, in the center of the U-District, as relates to the trail. They just built several of these student housing buildings here, like the blue one, but this has been "the" cannabis rest stop since as long as I can remember. It used to be constantly used by skateboarders, but bicycle riders often stopped there too.

Here's a couple I lost for a minute. ;) EDIT: In case it's not really really obvious, that second pic in post 4606, is Husky Stadium, as seen from the B-G Trail. If you look through the trees, you can see the big purple "W". ;) EDIT: Doggone it, I got my running commentary mixed up, when I lost those pics. There are 3 pics of Christmas lights on boats, plus the statue of Leif Erikson, taken at Shilshole Bay, right by the North Beach in Ballard. I figured if I was gonna see Santa, I had to look North, right? ;) Marvin's Garden is in Ballard proper, on the way back home, and it's just the very corner of the city block, LOL, which must be among the smallest city parks anywhere. :D

Christmas morning ride - very intermittent riding these days and I've lost a bunch of cardio fitness. Even with that frustration it felt fantastic to be out on the back country roads all by myself.

Twenty mile loop this AM, took in some of the Pinellas Trail and downtown St Pete, past Tropicana Field on my 87 Bridgestone. Cool and breezy....

They must know that dad is an avid rider. He's a great roll model, whether they know it or not. |

Those two girls just went out for their 3rd ride around the yard already. The youngest is already asking when we can go "around the block". That's a 5.5 mile ride
