I went and checked out a Green Gitane TdF tonight that was on Seattle CL. http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/bik/1283497568.html

Just want to give a heads up to fellow BF members in Washington state that the bike doesn't seem as nice as it is in the picture. The derailleur hanger is gone, someone cut it off and hung a Suntour derailleur on the drop out. The Brook B17 (not titanium) was shot. The bike was really dirty and scratches everywhere. It did come with a set of Campy HF record hubs laced with Super Champion rims. it was very dirty also, but the seller didn't want to sale separatly. Needless to say I passed on it.

This is being sold by a fellow BF member....

Panasonic DX4000, exc. condition, fully tuned, 60cm, $325 OBO - $325 (Logan Square)

Reply to: sale-xgxku-1285703258@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

Up for your consideration is a 1989 Panasonic DX4000, constructed with full seamless double-butted Tange #2 chromoly tubing throughout. The frame specs are measured center to center: 60cm seat tube, 57cm top tube. Best suited for riders around 6'1" to 6'3", but could work give or take an inch or two depending on your body dimensions. The best way to tell is to take her for a spin. Standover height is 34 and 1/4". I'm 5'11.5" with a 32" inseam and it is a shade tall for me in the standover height, but I can still ride it comfortably.

This bike has very low miles and has been well cared for. You will find very few scratches on it. There are no dents or rust at all and it tracks and rides well with no hands. The ride is extremely comfortable and responsive and the indexed shifting is flawless. You can also switch over to friction mode. Braking is excellent and the beautiful dark anodized Araya 700c rims are true and spin like butter. The component group is the all white Shimano Exage, two chainrings up front and 7 speeds in the rear. This was pretty high up in Panasonic's lineup that year, with (I believe) only the DX5000 and the Team models above it. Accordingly, the lugwork is very well executed and the dropouts are forged with adjusters.

The overhaul included all bearings being cleaned and repacked (headset, bottom bracket and hubs), all new cables (brake, shifter) and new tires (Michelin Erilium II 700x23c) and tubes. The saddle is also new. All moving parts have been adjusted, lubed and the seatpost and stem have also been greased for longevity. The chain has been cleaned and lubed, too. If I were keeping it, it would sport a white San Marco Rolls, but I'll leave that up to the preference of the buyer. Accordingly, if you have your own saddle, I will gladly keep the one on it and knock $10 off the price.

The bike has been dialed in and cleaned from top to bottom. You could eat off this bike and in fact, I just had a nice sandwich on it. I would estimate the weight at just over 22 lbs. Very light.

I will adjust the saddle and handlebars/stem to your preference so you can ride it home.

I also have a set of older Profile clamp-on aero tri bars that I will include with the bike if it sells for asking price. If not, you can have them for $10.

Additional high res pics can be seen here: http://s378.photobucket.com/albums/o...onic%20DX4000/

Rocket-Sauce 07-24-09 05:58 AM

I am willing to bet it is a little heavier than 15 lbs ;)

Hi everyone, apologies if this is poor etiquette, I'm new to these forums.

I'm probably going to buy this folding Peugeot this afternoon in San Francisco. I *think* it's a 1983 PNS 55 S, as seen in the Peugeot catalogue here: http://www.peugeotshow.com/1983fr/1983fr_14.jpg

My only concerns are that it looks like it isn't in great condition, and that there seems to be some kind of extra support bar added onto the bike, after looking at the pictures on CL. The guy's asking $100, and it comes with lots of baskets and lights and whatnot. Is this a bad idea to buy for someone who isn't very familiar with vintage bikes? I'm happy to put some work into this, but I don't want it to become a nightmare project.

Is this a bad idea for me? Thanks for any help or input. :)

P.S. don't buy it out from under me, that wouldn't be very nice!

Virtually untouched Shogun - Shogun Road Bike - Awesome - $200 (San Jose)

Awesome 12 speed road bike in excellent condition. Pictures don't do this bike justice. All original and basically in never used condition except for very minor scratches from storage. Original "Shogun tires" and brakes don't even look used. Rims don't even have brake wear - kid you not. No exaggeration and this bike has not been modified, rebuilt, reconditioned, etc. Originally acquired this bike to convert into a single-speed commuter but didn't have the heart to part this bike.

And I love this post.. Hipster Death Trap!!! - $100 (mission district)

Looking for a bike that will look great as you push it through dolores park on a warm afternoon? Nothing beats a vintage schwinn continental. This bike is a sexy beast, and you will be too. If you can ride it. Harness it's powers! I guarantee that within weeks of owning this absurdly heavy (and potentially dangerous) bike you will be fighting off advances from boys and girls across the city. But don't take my word for it. See for yourself!

Are you sick and tired of spending hours upon hours in your spinning class at the gym without seeing results? For the price of two months membership at your stuffy corporate gym you can be the proud new owner of this death trap on wheels! This bike is such a pain in the ass to ride that you will have the legs you've always wanted in no time at all. And you will look so damn good doing it. I've even heard that Lance Armstrong does most of his training on a vintage schwinn continental so that when he rides one of his uber-modern superlite custom race bikes it feels like he's floating through the clouds on a gust of wind. Forget about energy supplements, this is the real reason why he's so beefed up.

Amateur mechanic looking for the summer fixer-upper? This is the perfect project for you! Although I recently replaced the cables and housing for the breaks and shifters, there's still plenty more that needs to be done! And who better to do this than you? Or your mechanic when you finally give up and throw your hands up in the air asking "why god?"

I can guarantee that you will be able to ride it away, but how far you make it is up to you.

I would recommend this bike for someone between 5'5'' and 5'11'

So what are you waiting for? Act now while supplies last!

THIS IS NOT A RESTORE!!!!! IT IS IN THE ORIGINAL AS NEW CONDITION WHEN BOUGHT IN 1985!!!!
I have a 1985 Raleigh Supercourse that is in unbeilievable new condition (30 miles maybe), It should not even be ridden it is so nice. It should be shown in a bike museum. I do not even know how a bike stays in this condition as it should have been covered with dust, but looks like it was built up today. I did however polish the frame and fork true the wheels and adjusted everything on the bike. Size is 54cm It is there second or third from the top model racing bike offered in 85.
here is a link to the 1985 catalog http://www.sheldonbrown.com/retroral...5/pages/1.html
serial # is 5f0000089 No bike store stickers are on the bike so I think it may have been given to someone special to the company or on display. being the 89th bike made in febuary of 85'. It also has 20c tires from raleigh in 85' not 25c as spec.

I am Accepting Offers as I will just keep it for my own personal collection if it does not fetch some serius cash. Call Bill 781-812-2592 till 10.pm....Leave a contact phone# in all email inquires please.
