This guy is swinging for the fences. We have a guy in Burnsville who does this - takes a reasonably desirable bike and advertises it for stupid money - and leaves it there. His ads stay up forever. Finally I found out that this is some kind of tax dodge: He eventually donates these bikes to DAV for a tax write-off, quoting the inflated prices he advertised as the actual value of the bikes.

I guess that is one way of flipping bikes without going to the effort or expense to refurbish them.

I made it up, and was hoping it was close enough to "RINO" that "Flipper In Name Only" would be obvious.

I've always admired the Horst Leitner innovations.

Good topic though and does one really ride these boutique automotive branded bikes? I've long been on the fence for a 1st gen Porsche. They're really nothing great in regards to performance but something makes me gravitate to them.

After reading more about the bikes and Horst Leitner from the links provided in the CL ad, I would now have to agree with you.

Certainly some historical importance for his innovations; apparently Specialized purchased the patent for the Horst Link that now forms the cornerstone of all of their dual-suspension bikes according to the Marin Museum of Bicycling.

$400 Pinarello, that's in need of some TLC. Mostly all there as it would have been ridden back in the day. If it fit me, I might have to call in some favors, hehe.,,,,BD

PINARELLO ROAD BIKE

Not familiar with this era of Pinarello's and the pictures leave something to be desired, but it appears to be equipped with an 8sp Record drivetrain.

Trek 520 touring bike - $450 (Pawtucket RI)

condition: good
make / manufacturer: TREK
model name / number: 520
size / dimensions: 24"/ 61cm

Trek 520 touring bike (1989 model). 24"/61cm cromoly frame with a stand over height of 34" good for someone 6' or taller. 21 speed Shimano drivetrain includes Deore front and rear derailers, 105 hubs and brake levers. Shimano 7 speed bar end shifters, Matrix Titan T rims, Avocet saddle, Blackburn rear rack, and flickstand. New tires and tubes last fall. Has braze ons for low rider front rack, another water bottle cage, and fenders. Original except that I changed to wider handlebars and a hybrid style stem for a more upright riding height. I used this bike sparingly for trips and century rides, not for everyday use. In very good condition. $450.

Panasonic DX4000 road bike - $250 (Willow Grove)

image 1 of 11

make / manufacturer: Panasonic
model name / number: DX4000
size / dimensions: 60cm

For sale is a 1982 Panasonic DX4000 road bike. According to panasonicbikemuseum.com:

"The best bikes to look for in my opinion are the DX-4000 and DX-5000 models. They typically had lightweight Tange 1 or Prestige tubing with Shimano 105 or 600 components and they make excellent and reliable riders ... Some of the best bang for the buck out there right now."

This bike has Gatorskin tires in decent condition, upgraded brake cable housing, Bontrager bar tape, relatively new brake pads, lugged steel lightweight frame, Shimano 600 components, black aluminium dust caps, and a new KMC chain (not pictured). The bike has also been serviced--the wheel bearings were recently repacked and the gyro-master hubs spin really well, the headset bearings were repacked. The bike has many marks and nicks and dings, but it rides really well.

Size is approx. 60cm/24". Ideal for 6' or taller riders. I have a 31.5" inseam and it is fine for me to ride although the stand over height is a little high.
