Anyway, your story fits the slogan "One Less Car" perfectly.

khatful; I'm pretty sure you could find a replacement engine from a junkyard, and some tools (great excuse to buy tools!), and do it yourself...for a lot less cash.

Also, for those of you who believe in Karma and believe I was a total "toolbag" here, you'll like this. This morning as I'm driving to work I merge onto I694 behind a semi, goose the old Subaru Forester to pass and "clunk....tick tick tick tick". Rod bearing on #3 cylinder went...new engine $4800. So, if you take that into account I guess I do need to atone.
Sucks to hear that, man. And there's no way to actually fix that? Ugh... cars are needlessly complicated sometimes.

No worries
Khat, no worries. These guys are right, it is the sellers issue to hold the line and he/she had no problem so it is the end of the story. Sorry to hear about the auto problems.

Haha, yes and no....I have less an excuse as you might think. I did get a 42 mile ride in last Saturday and 30 on Sunday. And this coming Saturday and Sunday look to be able 30 degrees and partly cloudy. Looks like some riding again! It's not quite to the point of The Shining here.
P.S. Don't be too hard on yourself over this bike deal issue. Fix the cash differential, and you are in "official" make good mode. I have lived through so many harbrained deals on CL and Ebay, that this one you described was not optimal, but fixable.
I've also found a nice case of beer works out disagreements rather well.

I'll post pics in a day our two of the Trek and start asking for everyone's input/help. Little change of pace for me, and I'll need some help to get this one set up properly.

All Original Motobecane Grand Touring 58cm - $150 in the Bay Area
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/bik/1618695026.html
This seems super cheap for an all original, fine condition Grand Touring especially in the Bay Area. I've been on the fence for a few days about buying it, but six bikes in a one bedroom apartment is getting a little ridiculous.

Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer true
I'm half crazy, all for the love of you
It won't be a stylish marriage
I can't afford a carriage
But you'll look sweet, upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two!
Kuwahara Brand Was $1000.00 new Asking 275.00 or best offer
Email for details.

Univega * Viva Sport * 12 Speed Road Bike
Lightweight 12 speed - Quality Japanese built bicycle - I would say best for a person 5' 7" to 6' 1" with a 32 3/4" Stand-over height from ground to Top Tube.
This bike is Like new only used a couple times (very short rides and storge indoors) It is in very nice condition - The pictures does not do this bike justice its a must see in person.
Lightweight specialized Chromoly Double Butted frame/stays with Magalight Fork , 27" Gentleman Araya specialized rims with Sealed bearing Sunshin SP hubs, Univega Road tires ( like new) just need to fill up cause bike has been sitting for a while Suntour Seven Derailers with Suntour Frame mounted Power Shifters, Specialized lightweight seat post with Italia SP comfort road seat, Polished Lightweight Custom SR-SP aluminum Neckthat alone retails for 195.00 Sakae Custom Aluminum bars, Aluminum SR pedals, Lightweight aluminum SR Signature3 piece Cranks (with Univega logs) and chain wheels, Dia Compe caliper type brakes with dual position levers, Lightweight anodized Minoura Bottle bracket, yellow Lightweight aluminum Pletscher rear rack, Quick release front and rear wheels for easy transporting and storage.
Looks, Rides, Shifts, and Stops >> GREAT! this is a easy 650.00 doller bike a must see deal i need the money so my loss is your gain the add ons alone must be like around over 400.00
