I am pretty sure these were only offered as framesets (as they are now). So the components would have been of the owner's choosing.

I think his point is that NR is an odd...if not questionable and less desirable...choice for an 89'. Very few buyers are likely to want that frame with NR...so now you've restricted buyers to people who want the frame and are willing to do what's necessary to build it up in a more appropriate group.

I agree with icepick - silly.

The bike itself needs some TLC, but it must have been a great bike back in the 70s because they put alot of detail into it. There is a flame like pattern on all the joints to strengthen them.
Serious inquiries only.
Looks PX10ish
Nervex lugs, stronglight crank if not a PX10 it's still a good one

Trek 420
[h=2]Trek 420 - $200 (Jamaica Plain)[/h]

Barlow Street at Wachusett Street
(google map) (yahoo map)

condition: good

If you are a 5'0"-5'4" person looking for a light weight road bike that is ready to ride, this beauty of a Trek 420 might be the one for you.

This Trek 420 features a chromoly steel frame designed for sport touring, produced in the United States in 1989. It is charcoal metallic with bright blue trim. It has 21 speeds. It also has a planet bike chrome back rack, which will be included. It's center tube measures 19.5 inches. Brake cables, break pads and handle bar tape were all recently replaced. Tires are in great condition. Additionally, a racing bike seat (that I picked up at Bikes Not Bombs) is included.

Come get it! As spring sneaks into Boston, this one will go quickly.

Tom Ritchey rugged Touring/Commuter 54cm
[h=2]Tom Ritchey rugged Touring/Commuter 54cm - $350 (Newton)[/h]

© craigslist - Map data © OpenStreetMap

(google map) (yahoo map)

condition: good
size / dimensions: 54cm

This Tom Ritchey conversion to a flat bar commuter that has all of the original Shimano XT except the crank that is an early Deore. These are all bulletproof components. Changes are full fenders, new lightweight wheels and high pressure road Ritchey Tom Slick tires for a fast but comfortable ride, a cassette with gearing better suited for street use, a Blackburn rack shortened bars for city use and an elevated stem for better situational awareness. The frame measures 54cm center of the crank to center of the top tube but or a 56cm if measured to the top of the seat tube if you prefer. The stand over height is 31 1/2". The top tube is 57cm c-to-c. It is a best fit for someone 5' 9" or taller.

This bike is similar in concept to Bridgestone's XO-1; an extremely light mountain frame with road tires for performance on the street but rugged enough to be an all-arounder that can do anything. Bridgestone's XO-1 had a compact crank and road derailleurs to reduce the weight and the odd bars for which they were known.

Tom Ritchey was one of the first California mountain bikers and every biker, road or mountain, has probably used some of his parts for their extremely light weight and quality. He started out making parts, then bikes and even the custom steel tubing sets he built with Tange used by Bridgestone on the MB1 to make the first 23 pound mountain bike. His parts and his bikes are known for being light and strong but never cheap. As he said to customers "You can have: light, strong, cheap pick two.

I can meet you at Riverside if the T is your transportation mode. Please include a phone number or I will not respond. The price is firm.

1984 Bianchi Super Leggera Celeste 56cm Ed Litton Paint
[h=2]1984 Bianchi Super Leggera Celeste 56cm Ed Litton Paint - $1250 (Cape Cod/Harwich)[/h]

condition: excellent
make / manufacturer: Bianchi
model name / number: Super Leggera
serial number: 685
size / dimensions: 56cm

1984 Bianchi Super Leggera road bike.Same as used by Italian team in 1984 Summer Olympics. Lugged Columbus SL/SP double butted chromoly frame measures 56cm center to center with 32.5" stand over height. Bike was repainted by Ed Litton in the late 2000's far superior to original finish and updated with Campagnolo Ergo shifting 9 speed components. Wheels are Athena hubs with Mavic SUP Open Pro 32 spoke wheels with Vittoria Celeste 700x23c tires. .Bike is flawless except for one touched up nick on top tube.Condition is superb.Drive train has less than 600 miles logged since conversion.Includes many original Campy Super Record parts pictured and also headset and bottom bracket(sorry will not separate,they should stay with the bike). I have really enjoyed it but have recently acquired an Independent Fabrication Crown Jewel that has taken it's place as my favorite steel bike. First $1250 picked up takes it.I answer responses that include a phone number.Interesting bicycle related partial trades considered.

Yeah, that one is a bit pricey. They tend to go for anywhere from $600-1200. That one is over priced, but not by too much considering all the trick parts on it. With better paint, it might fetch $1000.

I grant you this is an odd bike (Burley Rock'n'Roll Softride tandem), and the handlebars have been switched (roadie with barcons instead of original flat bar with triggers). But it's a solid quality tandem, and it's been sitting on CL for a week at least. If he can connect with the person who wants it, it seems like a great deal at this price.

Probably a Sports. The Superbe was more deluxe, having a color-matched rear rack and a front Dynohub with lights, I believe. This one looks like my Sports. Price is a little steep unless it's in really nice condition.

I'm baffled by this bike- what is it? On the one hand, the non-original paint job and decals (or what I can only assume are non-original) are a bit of a mess; on the other hand, I thought this bit of detail on the lugs was intriguing:

Judging from the fork crown and the lug cutouts, I think it may well be what it's listed as. Probably late 70s-early 80s, but hard to tell without better photos. Lots of good Cinelli timeline resources on the net - go over and check it out. Make sure it's not a Windsor (fork crown looks Cinelli).
