thanks very much for sharing this bike. it is great to see one which is so close to all original.

btw - i don't think the berthets are original. they all came with 45ca's at this time.

WOW non-fixe, thanks so much for sharing this great find!

suspect this is the earliest pink mercier i have seen. do you know if it predates the gan sponsorship?

would it have been called a model 300 or another model name?

i'm really looking forward to seeing how you decide to build it out.

btw - have you done any work as yet on your "nieuw" red one?

If it were my bike, I'd go with Campagnolo NR derailleurs, high flange hubs and Super Champion or Mavic tubular rims, Mafac brakes, Stronglight 93 crank and a Brooks Pro or Ideale saddle.

@juvela Yes, you're absolutely right about the Lyotard pedals not being original with the Peugeot PX10. Very astute observation. The Lyotard Berthets are off an Atala that I purchased last month and sold, but kept the Lyotards for the Peogeot PX10 because of the uniqueness of design and the superb condition.

Thanks, juvela. I think this frame is from '70 or '71, which means I need a Fagor shirt (in XL ...) to go with it. We've tried to identify the model, but to no avail. It may have been a team bike. I presume quite a few French teams rode these BITD.

The red Mercier is still the project queue, which is getting longer faster than I can build them, as you may have noticed.

Force- Thanks for the comp. Wheelset are original to the bike for 1972 with Campagnolo Record hubs (non oil port).
This is the clincher whl.set but I'm also planning on another for pure road fitted with tubulars. I happen to have another set of hubs but haven't decided on rims.

Has the original circa '72 N. Record shift group, Stronglight 93 crank and S.light comp. headset. Nice to discover it has a Phil cartridge BB (Swiss threaded). Ideal for the dusty gravel trails ahead. Will retain the Lyotard pedals and toe clips.

Brakes- Most of the time tinkering has been in this department.
The bike arrived short one Mafac brake lever (1/2 hood) so I decided to go with this other Mafac type pair (depicted). Not sure what year or period they are but I like the drillium look. Had to do some clever switcheroo with the odd mix and broken cable adjustment barrels. Surprised to learn the different type between Mafac's and that they don't interchange.

Calipers are the original centerpull Mafac Competition however I'm trying something different. Converting the cables to make it a 2:1 mechanical advantage. Sort of a frankenbrake, copied idea from Cycles Alex Singer and using off-the-shelf parts.

Being this frame didn't have braze-on cable guides and stops, I decided to minimize the rear brake cable sheathing. Only one clamp on the front portion of the top tube. Also, the majority all cables will be open with very little outer sheath used. Less friction and easy to clean.

Pads- I have an old set of finned Scott-Mattahuser with the pad material oddly removed on three of them. I'm converting them into a cartridge type for ease of replacement pads.

Before and after pics. (now has modified bar and non-original Mafac levers)

That's pretty much what I would like to do. Problem is, I'm currently running a bit short on Stronglight and NR stuff, as I've got a few other frames from the same era that would be nice with those as well.

Thanks, I'm surprised how fast the PX10 is, so smooth!

As far as the frame, I would love to build it up to get it on the road, I just not had the time. I wish I could send it somewhere with the parts and have them build me the bike. I don't trust the french bikes to local mechanics.

hello non-fixie,

i like Kactus suggestion - sounds just right and most appropriate to the frame. you might wish to fit a pair of Lyotard Professionals and perhaps a genuine Laprade pillar as well. if you wanted to get a bit exotic you could mount a Verot roller bearing bb and hs.

please begin a thread for this bike when you commence assembly. look forward to reading about it and am sure others would as well...

Hey LongLivePeugeot! - you won't be livin' long if you be doin' that!
That looks pretty unfortunate - I hope that you fared better than the bike did.

i'm sure her old wheelbase was simply too long. now that she has been criteriumised everything should be just perfect!

Very pretty! The red/orange and black tires look right at home on this bike.

nice to see. looks like she may hail from ~1969. stem some years later than machine. perhaps a previous owner had a pletscher on there at one time; hence to black tape on the seat stays.

purchased a new PX-10E in 1970 and she came through with an odd set of criterium shift levers i have never seen before or since. perhaps some of the forum's Peugeot/Juy experts are familiar with them. the lever bodies were formed of folded steel sheet and had a black plastic knob injection moulded on the end. each side of the folded steel sheet had a semicircular opening to accept the shift cable end. in practice the end would work its way down between the two halves of the lever body and in some instances could come all the way out.

normally one would expect to see a set of criterium shift levers like these at this time:

Hello juvela,

I think the odd shifters you described are called "simplex friction downtube (large ends)" on the velobase website.

I have a set like the ones show on velobase, except mine have white wingnuts not black.
