1986 Cannondale ********************??

Hi guys and gals I need some help.

Unfortunately I do not have pictures at this time. I ride a Navy Blue Cannondale, serial# 56072186022 assemblers initials stamped in a circle are TC. The bike has a sticker from Towne Cyclo Sport Inc.. in New York. The cranks and derailer set is Shimano 600 SIS? 42 - 52. Has Dia Comp 500 brakes, the gear levers are marked Shimano 600. On the front of the head tube it is marked Aerolite and on the seat tube it has a triathlon picture on it, the three different stages.

Can anyone guess as to it's model??

Sounds like it could be an SR500 that has had at least the brakes swapped, was custom painted at C-dale, or has been repainted.

Or an SR400 with all the components swapped.

Or, if it has 3 bottle cage bosses, an ST500 touring bike.

Given that it has a manufacturing date in July, it could be an early 1987 bike. Then it may be an SR600.

There was a guy riding a 86/87 C-dale in our club ride yesterday. The dude was haulin along with the B group at a comfortable 19MPH average on a bike with downtube shifters and six speed rear, double chainrings. He took his turns at pull and had no problems keeping up with all those brifter bikes (including mine). Aluminum frame with steel fork in excellent condition. I was impressed as most guys with downtube shifters fade after the first 15 miles.

It's not the shifter position but the motor that matters..
