[QUOTE=verktyg;18307594]Greetings @papik
You have a 1979 Raleigh "Record" that was made for the French market. They were painted in Raleigh Team kit colors.
It has the same frame that Raleigh used on the Competition model built for the US market. The Competition model used Campagnolo Nuovo Gran Sport components.
The 1979 French "Record" bikes came with a variety of components including:
Raleigh badged Sakae/Ringyo (SR) RY-5 Royal-5 forged cranks, Suntour Cyclone derailleurs with down tube ratchet Power Shifters, SR seatpost, Cinelli bars and stem, Normandy Luxe Competition hubs, T.D.C. Continental headsets plus a mix of other parts.
I picked up a 1979 Raleigh Record like yours. The seller worked next door to Raleigh's US headquarters in Boston. He told me that a shipment of these bikes arrived in the US by mistake. He bought in 1980 and rode it for less than 100 miles.
The bike was most likely on display at Raleigh's facility as it had some upgraded components including a Super Turbo saddle, black Modolo brakes, Campy Super Legerra pedals, Cinelli Criterium bars plus yellow Benotto bar tape.
The serial number on my bike is WE90032xx.
I made some changes to the bike including switching to a Brooks Pro saddle, black chainrings, changed from a 13-24t FW to 13-26T, switched from sewups to clinchers and different pedals.
Looks like someone mounted a Campy NR rear derailleur on your bike.

Thanks Verktig , and congratulations for your precious and great knowledge ! your RALEIGH "record" is quite new...very beautiful . now , I understand why I have not seen this model on the catalogs my precedent RALEIGH was a non identified model painted with the PANASONIC TEAM colors, it was not made with REYNOLDS tubes , but it was an excelent bicycle , I sold it because it was a little too large for me ...This "RECORD" has a 56 frame , perfect for me , so , I will keep it after a decals restoration , I think it is a real light and perfect racing bike , I think it was sold in France with the BROOKS "professional" saddle like on the picture ; on the frame , it has a sticker with "1977 champion de France 1978" and under "1978 champion du monde"...

1978 world road champion and 1977 1978 champion de France !

Another cheap Portage has come up, this time in Nanaimo, and for only $25!
Raleigh Portage Vintage Cruiser
And to prove that the bike is in Naniamo, the seller has made sure there's some madrona, er, "arbutus" trees in the background!

Yeppers. I pointed out the difference between the covetable American market Raleigh Portage touring bike with 650B wheels vs the not-covetable Canadian market Raleigh Portage mountain bike with 26 inch (559) wheels back in post 433 of this thread.

Another old Raleigh Canada built bike has been acquired this week. A 1989 Venture Mountain Tour "Canyon Runner" 18 speed! All there and in repairable condition, save the chain. I am particularly fond of the stem.

Nice one. Interesting...I think Raleigh USA dropped that particular design of "Mountain Tour" logo in 1987, and the frame geometry looks similar to my '84 Crested Butte. By the late '80's I thought most major manufacturers moved away from the laid back geometry in mountain bikes.

I have a similar Free Spirit by Raleigh SN RE9######. It has similar characteristics.

Yeah, 1979 would be early, since the only real mountain bikes you could by that year would be from the guys in Marin (as far as I know.) My uneducated guess is that maybe Raleigh had some unused early MTB frames laying around, and figured it would be wise to unload them on a "private label" brand, since they probably wouldn't care as much.

My daughter's Raleigh Team Professional (SBDU). No comment on the bar tape. She likes a little color.

A couple of shots of my Super Course TT from a lovely ride last week. I ended up replacing the Brooks17 Narrow with a Selle Anatomica Titanico which I find much more comfortable. The Brooks looked great but it just didn't feel right for some reason… I also switched to SPD pedals after holding out for a while but they make the ride much more enjoyable for me.

Finished this one up this weekend, but unfortunately didn't get to do more than a test ride before it snowed last night into this morning. Ah well. Now I'll need to wait until the roads are cleared.
It's a 1973 Raleigh RRA, which I received in a trade. The original Simplex SLJ RD has a munged upper pivot bolt and spring, so I went with a SunTour Cyclone GT, which gave me an excuse to go with SunTour barcon shifters (I really don't like downtube shifters). Tires are Challenge Eroica tubulars on Arc-en-ciel rims and Phil Wood hubs. Saddle is an Ideale 90. Bar-tape is Brooks leather in ochre. Pretty much everything else is original.

@nlerner It looks great and I think you will be pleased with the barcons. They suit my Super Course perfectly. I hope the snow melts quickly in your neck of the woods. They are calling for a foot of snow this weekend around here.

Here's my 1974 Raleigh International. I finally got it on the road last week. I love it. I'm tempted to get rid of all my bikes except this one and collect a bunch of Internationals and build them up in various ways.

I love a good "forest green" color (if that is the color). I saw someone on the road with one and it looked so sharp.
My Raleigh Super Tourer per one summer, I ran it as a single speed.

My 1979 Raleigh Roadster DL1. Smooth ride, lots of style but very heavy. My wifes friend tried to pick it up last week as she was admiring it. It was a struggle.
