Just some pics from some recent rides. I threw some speedplays on there, and man, what a difference. Took advantage of a nice day and did some dirt/gravel trails.

Question - how would you guys feel if I replaced the old 8s group with a 9s daytona group and Velocity A23 wheels (2nd generation hoods, not the newest). The 8s stuff is cool, but I think I might get the most out of this with a more modern group.

Well, it depends. Are you going to give me a nice deal on your old crappy 8-speed stuff? That's the Ballard lockes, isn't it? Or rather, the Hiram S. Chittendon lockes? (I think I spelled that right.) That's one of my favorite day rides, I eat a lot of clam chowder from that little place near the entrance.

1st pic is SLU close to REI, 2nd is indeed the Lockes, and the 3rd is Discovery Park. Beautiful places - I need to ride through Magnolia more often. I imagine that I'd probably box up the old 8s stuff, but if you are actually interested, I'll keep you in mind.

Oh yes, I also picked up a 3TTT titanium pro quill stem that I picked up this weekend. It's not pretty, but it would match the titanium SELCOF post on there... and it's also titanium, which is always cool no matter what. The only thing is that it is 26.0, so I'd have to find some different Cinelli bars or use Hwy Ones (which jibe better with 2nd gen hoods anyways).

Yeah, that makes sense, to hang onto the older stuff. Even if you keep the 9-speed stuff on the DeRosa, you might find another spot to hang the 8-speed. Darned if the sun's not out, I might have to go for a ride today.

I planned it so I left straight from work and did south side of the lake and cut over through I-90 back to UW. Beautiful day for a ride, but it wasn't exactly warm by the end of the ride. Good thing I brought a baselayer.

And here is the stem in question. Hot or not?

PS - does anyone have catalogs for De Rosa in this time period?

Bike looks great in its Ergo 8-speed, but I'm sure it will look just as good - and work that bit better - with 9-speed.

Discovery Park - now there's a great day-ride. Quite a climb to get up and out though, isn't it?

Glad you guys are seeing some spring-like weather (dry, that is, even if it's still chilly).

Not digging the stem to be honest...

If I were changing it over, I'd go with a used Centaur group.

By the way - BEAUTIFUL BIKE!

Ever since Specialized put out the "Death Stem" made of titanium, I've shied away from Ti stems. I don't know about this particular one. But, Ti in stems seems to be a bad idea. I'd research this one and make sure it's got a good reputation.

Ah I forgot, you won't be back in WA for a while right? Yeah, there is quite a bit of climbing to get there, which isn't helped by the Italian manly-man gearing. The morning commute has been frigid. We are in that weird zone where days are sunny, but without the clouds to insulate, the mornings end up being colder and the afternoons are a bit warmer. We will hit 80 by the weekend. Let's hope it lasts!

Are you thinking newer gen Centaur with the 11s-style hoods? I missed out on a great deal for all silver alloy on the paceline a few weeks ago.

Yep, it's slightly warmer today, thank goodness. I like titanium skewers, but I'm not so sure about that stem. But I found a nice deal on a Cinelli 1E stem yesterday, with a 26cm clamp. Most are Cinelli's proprietary 26.4cm, so I got lucky on this one. But I'm a sucker for anything pantographed.
