FRANKLIN road bike
I just bought this bike:
- Cinelli botton bracket - Italy
- Cinelli stem - Italy
- Cinelli Champion del Mondo bars - Italy
- Paramont Stronglite stem mounting
- Nashber rims 700c
- Sunshine ProAm hubs, marked 8-77
- Michelin 700 x 23C tires
- Shimano Dura Ace brakes - Japan with NOS Dia-Compe levers
- Campanelo crank set - Italy
- Campanelo seat post - Italy
- Campanelo shifters - Italy
- Shimano PD-M525 pedals - Japan
- Shimano Dura-Ace front derailleur
- Shimano Altus A10 rear derailleur
serial number: 082
I change some messages with "Franklin" from Newark - Ohio who built this frame. They said is probably 1978, probably Reynolds or Columbus tubing.
Actually I knew that already, some green part of the decal is still on the frame
What are your opinions about this one (including a value)?
Did anybody see another bike like this, is it a keeper (collectible)?

I've seen four or five Franklins. More photos are needed to give an estimate, though if you twist my arm I'd probably guess around 400-500. Franklin does a fair bit of work for other builders, including Bilenky. He's not a huge name, but his stuff that I've seen looks quite nice.
Is it a keeper? That depends. Does it fit well? What else do you have and how much room is left? That's subjective. Is it collectible? He's not a huge name with a rabid market, but he's a nice us builder. It depends on what you collect...some people collect potato chips shaped like Zsa Zsa Gabor.

I've never seen a Franklin that wasn't made superbly. He's also very good with painting frames. Franklin Frames built in the 70's and 80's sometimes look a little worn after 30 or 40 years on the road but send it back to him for a repaint and you have an outstanding bike both on the road or next to your café table at the coffee shop. I sometimes see a brand new Franklin frame in my local bike shop with shiny chrome or stainless steel details (I don't know which) and they are sweet.

I'll repeat what I said over on The CABE about this bike:
Franklin Frames is a builder out of Ohio. Builds nice stuff. He refinished my 1949 Hercules Kestrel for me a couple years back.
As far as this specific bicycle is concerned, it is a mishmash of a build, but should be a nice rider.
