I have an 81 trek with zero water bottle mounts. In fact, everything is bolted on. Right now I have one cage held on with hose clamps, which works fine but looks terrible. I have thought about installing rivnuts for years but have been reluctant to drill holes in the frame.

This thread got me thinking. Since my merckx is bare steel at the moment, and I'm doing a full custom to suite my needs I went ahead and added water cage bosses on the seat tube today

So @calamarichris, what was the "solution" for your Look? Not familiar with those cages and (forgive my ignorance) not sure how that second cage is mounted. I know your Look came with only one set of water bottle bosses. Having a second set of bosses added was first order of business when I had some work done on mine.

On another thread (the do or not dork disc) someone mentioned having the clean uncluttered racer. Or maybe some don't want any front or frame mounts or if no braze bosses, the old traditional clamp type.
So this brought me back to water bottle / cage solutions and although I already mentioned what I normally use, I forgot to mention one more. Its the 'fanny' pack!
Laugh if you'd like, but the newer high tech versions are great for cycling. The wider belt type are highly recommended.
I'm primarily a camel/hydration pack user but sometimes it just doesn't seem right on casual or townie use.
The fanny pack type work very good for off-road as well with no flying bottles. Or perhaps for those who don't want a sweat back or lack the thought of a tube feeder, the bottles are convenient. The one I use (depicted) has dual bottle with tensioners so it can vary to size. The storage pockets are a given but the one large is excellent, which can double up as a back brace if you insert a stiffner. One can add a blinky and it has a carry handle.
