Triplizers and splindle length
I'm thinking about getting a triplizer chainring for my Shimano 600 crankset. Do these work well with the standard spindle length for the crankset? In this case that's 116mm. Or would it require a longer spindle length? The cables run under the bottom bracket on this frame.
Added: I just read Peter White's bit on these. He says they would require a longer bottom bracket axle but didn't specify by how much. I'm using the crankset on a frame that doesn't have guides brazed onto the top of the bottom bracket shell, so if I had to guess I would go with 122mm.
Added added: obligatory what the hell is wrong with the web programmers who did this site rant. I still can't get a post in before I'm considered "logged out". Get with it you hacks. In order to do anything here I have to go to a virutal pc on which I have absolutely no privacy, advertisement, bad scripts, or bad peers protection. Holy mother of god, get with the times. Never mind. I've had it with you bozos, and I'm done.

Full disclosure--I'm sending you to my own site, and it only covers a few specific old-school triplizers. But you might also find some useful stuff in the blog section--there's a post about triplizing 144 Campy cranks by drilling the crankarms (not a service that I offer), and in another post about where to get triplizers of various BCDs that I don't make.

Death fork? Naaaah!!
As I get older I build up more bikes with triples. My rule of thumb for a double to triple conversion is to add 5mm to the drive side of the BB spindle. I don't know if this supported by science or engineering, but it works for me.

Hard to go wrong with that rule of thumb.

As for the login thing, I think the browser, settings, and plug-ins like AdBlocker must play a role. Chrome and IE keep me logged in reliably, but FireFox drops my login to BikeJournal constantly. It's annoying.

I've had my LBS triplize four of my bikes.
To Motobecans and Two Peugeots.
They all needed a 5mm longer spindle.
When you log in, make sure you check the box the says,
Keep me logged in, otherwise it will time you out very quick.
