PhotoJoanne cooked asparagus last night. She had never had it. I ate it. I didn't die. I'm surprised.

Excuse me while I vent.

[rant]You know what I HATE with a passion? You have some friends that encourage you to do the local group ride, even though you know you're so out of shape that it's a REALLY bad idea. So, you take off, and the whole first half of the ride is up hill. This is a no-drop ride, so there are regular re-group spots. However, the ENTIRE group ends up waiting for you at every stop, because you're the last slow poke to show up. Then, as you approach, everyone starts clipping in. I get it, they've had a good rest and I'm the one slowing them down, but com'on! Those who didn't really need a rest get a LONG rest, and the guy who's about to DIE gets nothing but encouraging words like "keep going", "good job", "you're almost there" and my favorite - "is your face always that pale?"

Thanks. [/rant]

That's why I take the opposite approach - "Hey, pass out so i can get a picture of you writhing on the ground" and whatnot.

Were they also riding back down the hill to see where you were? Because that's annoying too.

Nope! I signed up months ago. I can't do the pizza port ride that Tunavic proposed for this weekend.

. That's funny I had a 140 pound guy tell me the other day while riding up a long climb, pull up on the peddles drive hard toward the bars and recover on the down hill. I replied, I got the equivalent of 2 of you plus your bike going up this hill. Thanks, just focus on keeping my wheel on the flats.

From before this morning's ride. I was wishing I had one of my battery-operated strobe kits.

Damn, that's arty and everything! I beg to differ though, no strobe required.

100% hardwood charcoal. All sorts of shapes and sizes. It's from Whole Foods, so it's GMO-free.

On Saturday I drafted a horse and buggy before droping the hamer. And I always waive back at Amish and Mennonites. Someday I will find the barn where they make all those sickeningly cute kids.

Were they using race horses or are you a slower rider? I find the Amish buggies up here in NY are slower than molasses. I sustain about 16mph on my hybrid, if I get behind a buggy I'm forced to either pass or slow down to <10mph. No matter how bad the headwind is, I hate drafting behind them, those horses seem to always wait until I get behind them to do their business LOL

Its a wonder why drivers are always angry at bicyclists when we're not even the slowest mode of transportation on the roads.

It was up a small incline and we had just come off a sharp turn so we had no momentum. Also, we couldn't see if there was oncoming traffic until we got closer to the top of the rise. Once we could see well enough to pass we droped the hamer and left those plain people in in the dust.

I did get dropped by a couple of buggies last year. I closed in on them on a short, steep hill, but I was riding fully loaded and couldn't keep the pace, especially since I had just left camp and wasn't warmed up. I let them stay ahead of me on the descent rather than try to pass on the curvy road. Besides, it was an amazing scene. They were heading to worship on a Sunday morning. Two of them clip clopping along in tandem into the morning sun surrounded by tall, dewy corn. There was a young woman riding shotgun on the trailing buggy staring back at me and two young children in the back window doing the same. Even if I were the sort of person who would risk being disrespectful by taking a photo I would not have. It was one of those perfect moments on a bike that was not to be disturbed. They finally turned off where I went straight.

Hardwood is the best. Since I was home watching the little one this weekend I put a few things on to cold smoke used pecan and apple woods.
