GTFOOTW or Get the F* out of the way!
Hello bike buddies..
1. how do you get the attention of people facing the wrong direction when you are passing them? Do you realllllly have a bell still on your bike? Also what about birds, and cats? Roadkill? jk.
2. does newly mowed lawn grass, horse S* (really people?) gravel from driveways, unsuspected cracks in the road cast over the bike path and broken pavement in the bike lane freak you out like it does me? How do you deal?

The walkers/joggers going against traffic, we normally do a little dance when we see each other to figure out who's going to be closer to the edge of the road. I normally let them have the edge unless they really want the road. But I still say good morning.
Since I ride around a golf course, and some of the holes are close to the road, and golf carts are always tracking grass clippings onto the bike lane, I've gotten used to that. I just make sure to go straight over them, in case, they are slippery. I do try to avoid gravel on roads. Haven't had to deal with the horse droppings, but I'd probably try to avoid that, too. (I was in band in HS, and we did some parades, and that was the only thing that would make me move from my proper line.)
I, too, tend to shout at animals, especially squirrels, so they will get the F out of my way.
As far as cracks in the sidewalk/pavement goes. There's only one section where I ride on the sidewalk, because it is a pretty big hill, and by the top, I'm only going about 10mph, while the traffic is doing 45+. I've learned most of the cracks on that sidewalk, and I'm really only worried where there is a height differential. And I've learned where to go at those points to avoid the height differential.
On the road cracks perpendicular to my travel don't really worry me (unless there's a height differential, and I haven't seen many of those). I do try to avoid the cracks that are going the same way as I am, because I don't want them to "trap" my wheel. I also try to avoid the bigger potholes.
There was one short length of road on my 25 mile ride that was pretty bad. But since it was less than 1/4 mile, I just took the lane, slowed down, and worked my way around the bigger potholes and cracks.

Yeah, I have bells on all my bikes. I used to be real partial to the "Temple of Tone" bells (still am actually), but am upgrading the fleet to Crane Suzu's as the sound from a big brass bell carries further and penetrates other sounds better. I find having a bell invaluable on infrequent occasions and really nice to have pretty regularly. It's personal taste, but I'm much more inclined to use a bell than I am to say "on your left" or anything else. A nice bell can be a very attractive accessory as well.

Sludge
This last weekend while standing on a 15ft ladder cleaning sludge out of our storm drains with my hands the thought came to me "you're taking one for the team". Then I thought.. If i can do this in front of all my neighbors.. then i can sure as hell learn how to fix a flat and maintain my own bike! (feeling courageous)

Yes of course I do,
That was my attempt at sarcasm!
Well I say of course I do, but before I even put my first pair on I did a search to see if I should or shouldn't. That's how I found this Bike Forums.

IMHO the above post is extremely disrespectful to all women cyclists who choose or do not choose to wear undergarments and making lude, sarcastic and sexual innuendos and comments in this forum is disgusting and grossly inappropriate. The dignity and trust of both men and women in this bike forum should always be respected and never ever be taken lightly and does not represent how I would ever teach my boys how to treat women.

=) Hi Toofer thanks for joining in. Stay on topic and write what you think of the OPs post and how it makes you feel.
It was edited alot. Because i had alot of emotions. My post was deleted but the OP stayed and I wondered why. idk so I had to paraphrase my reply so it was family friendly like the censor asked me to.

Its Fall where I am and its colder. I don't have a long sleeved jersey (even though I did post in the -pass it on jersey thread- I will have some jerseys I can pass on later) but as an entrepreneur I came up (as I often do) with an improvisation to wear long sleeved thermal wear under my short sleeved jersey. This is because I really need a place to hold my smart phone while im riding. Not sure if this will cause me to overheat though, will report back here in "Vic's (thats me) Bike Thoughts" thread later.

Just put some nails on the back of your phone and jab them through your jersey pocket:

2. nope. Good idea. Bad implementation. Lesson: Its good to have ideas, but not all ideas are good.
3.Thank you again Indyfabz for joining in my adventures, musings, deep thoughts here in "Vic's bike thoughts" thread. May the Force Be With You. May we have a long lasting friendship bonded in the social coming together one only can find here in Bike Forums. I heart you!

So once you lose the platform pedals and go clipless you might even see the green turn to gray as you go so fast on that machine that the paint peels off
Oh and nice bike Why is it sitting there and not going 15-20mph down or up a road
