Start of week: 237 lbs.
End of week: 236 lbs.
Actually, this is cheating a bit, because I only lost about a half pound. It's getting harder and harder to lose weight each week. Although, I've got to tell ya', I fully expected to gain weight this week because of all the travel and eating in restaurants. So, I'm pretty happy with the outcome.
Gonna' have to hit the trainer hard this week as winter has set in with a vengence in the north country. We'll be transitioning to cross country skis and snowshoes for our exercise.
Week's goal is to lose 2 lbs. and get to 234 lbs.

Still at 232.5lbs. Goal for the week 230lbs. Would really like to be in the 220's by Christmass. Getting hard to stay motivated now
that its cold and dark.

Tough weekend last week - Furnioture shopping with the family. Up to 183 that is not good. I think Istarted this thing at 173. I am the founder of this I think and here I am gaining weight. I guess if I did not post each week and encourage others I would have gained a ton more.

Tuesday - Run - ended up on the dreaded Stair stepper for 45 minutes since treadmills were taken. I am sure I did just as much aerobically. Man that was hard!
Wednesday - Run and weights
Thursday - Bike
Friday - Get bike from shop (new cassette)
Saturday - Ride!
Sunday - Trainer
OH and I believe I have proven it's not about the exercisew for me. It's the food. Need to Cut down or out some of the food that is not healthy and I want to eat too much of.

OK, just got a gym membership and I am going to jump back in on this thread.

I've not posted in a while and figured I would since I am back on the diet side of things. I'm currently down 44 pounds from my starting weight in January and have actually lost 12 pounds over the last week(mostly water weight I think). I've not been riding a whole lot since I've had a lot going on but my diet is going very well, now that I am back on it.
My wife and I are both currently dieting under the supervision of a nutritionist and are in a program to have bariatric surgery in about 6 months unless something changes. I know there are a lot of differing opinions on that subject but after doing our research we have both decided that it is the best course of action for us at this point.
Needless to say I'm very excited this week.

I'm down 12.8 pounds in less than 5 weeks, from 221 to 208.2 this morning.
On November 8, I began a 28 day vegan diet. Today is day 32. Several things came to a head that day. In 2008, I lost 41 pounds, from 245 to 204, mostly do to biking and diet drugs. Then last winter, I gained back 15. This year I've biked over 2,200 miles, and didn't loos a pound! With winter approaching, I began to get a panic that I might once again have a 15 pound gain. I decided to not wait til January 1, but instead maybe head off part of the problem, by starting an early diet.
I see a Dr Oz show, where he put a "meat and potatoes" cowboy on a 28 day vegan diet. He had great health improvements in just those 28 days. So then I decided, I can do that. So for the last month, I've had no meat, dairy, candy, soda pop (except for one piece of cake and one piece of pie). The strangest feeling, after 3 weeks, I'm began to eat less, and not really crave anything. For Thanksgiving, while everyone had turkey, dressing, pumpkin pie, etc., I found fruits and veggies, plus had a fairly good micro waved tv dinner.....brown rice and veggies.
Normally a chocolate-aholic, I've not craved it for the past couple of weeks. I know for biking, a vegan diet is probably not a good long term plan, but going to stick with it awhile, til i get my weight down. Then I may incorporated some fish and meat back into the diet.

I thought I'd join in...I weighed myself this morning and was at 220! That's higher than I've been in a LONG while. I had been hovering around 215 and had gotten to as low as 213 a few weeks ago. Then Thanksgiving happened...not that I ate so much then, but I got a cold and ran a low fever on and off for about a week. I wasn't able to ride and felt like cr@p.
I picked up a trainer off craigslist a couple of days ago so I'm able to ride again without worrying about the rain etc. I'm hoping that I could get to 216 by the end of the week. (I'm hoping at least some of this is water weight.)

Hey Nola - Good job showing up here and getting a trainer. I use Chris Carmicahel's CTS DVDs and they are a better workout than when I am on the road. I need to lose weight too -r ight now it seems I am too committed to eating - which is not good. I am glad I exercise ro I would be in a heap of trouble.

As someone who's been a vegetarian for the last 10 years, I don't know of a reason why a vegan diet would not be good for biking. Could you explain a little further?
Congratulations on your stick-to-itiveness during Thanksgiving. I've found the same thing happened to me. At some point the cravings go away. I took up biking 4 months ago and don't seem to have any issue with the vegetarian diet. I had multiple health problems, including diabetes, and all have been cured through a healthy vegetarian diet. For me, going back to eating meat would be a huge mistake. You might want to consider staying with the vegan diet.

John....I'm just a "meat and potatoes" country boy. Biology, health, and nutrition,etc. were never my good classes in school. I've read where you can't get all you need for cycling with just a vegan diet.
I don't really understand what's going on right now. After 4 1/2 weeks of eating as close to vegan as I can, I don't have the major hunger pains or cravings that I used to have. Maybe it's the sugar I've cut out?
Thought maybe I'd start eating fish and chicken, but very limited amounts. Or maybe some eggs. I like hard boiled eggs, but not had them in a month. But the diet is going so well right now, I almost afraid to change anything.
If you eat vegetarian, do you eat dairy and eggs?

Probably more what I'm NOT eating. No meat, dairy, fried foods, sweets or sodas.
For breakfast I have whole grain cereal, banana and green tea.
Lunch varies...avocado on pita bread, alfalfa sprouts, and tomato. Or a veggie sandwich. I snack a lot of nuts. Usually have peanut butter on a slice of bread. Drink several cups of green tea (all decaf). Occasionally I just bake a sweet potato.
I didn't know much about vegan style eating. So I just googled some recipes. Cashew chili was good. Vegan pancakes are good, have those on Sunday morning. Very simple to make.
I have a juicer, have a big cup of veggie juice one night a week....celery, carrot, squash, cucumber, and tomato.
I don't really have a diet, per se. I just eat fruit and veggies. It's really, really strange, for the last week or so, I don't feel hungry. Didn't eat lunch today until 4:00, and in the past, I could hardly wait until noon!

My bad. I posted in the wrong thread. Moved it here in an attempt to make it right.
Well I've been part of this thread/group since earlier this year but haven't posted much. First ride in January ended in the emergency room. Arm required surgery and so that put me out of commission for quite a while. Didn't ride again until this past week -- a big 300 yarder to see if I could stay on the bike. Nothing physical. It's all mental and financial. The break and surgery about bankrupted us. I went back to work in early summer and have been getting adjusted to that. I've also joined the gym about 3 months ago to ride the stationary bikes. It's been spotty -- probably averaging 2 days per week. Striving to get to 5 days at the gym and 4 on the bike. Changed pedals on my bike for flat mtb type platforms with those little spikes -- feet got caught in clamps during accident and that made it worse.
Anyway I'm back, sort-of, and determined to get going properly on my riding. I like the weight loss and conditioning part of riding but actually the enjoyment of moving through different areas on the bike is a great joy to me. A very nice solitary think time experience.

Anyway I'm back, sort-of, and determined to get going properly on my riding. I like the weight loss and conditioning part of riding but actually the enjoyment of moving through different areas on the bike is a great joy to me. A very nice solitary think time experience.
I don't remember my starting anything -- so here goes
269.0 It's been bouncing around by three or four pounds per week. Down and then up and ...... (gained a lot this year.)

Total loss this week: 2.2 lbs
Total loss since 11/30: 9 lbs
Tough week, lots of snow and ice - the only thing that saved me was tracking calories. Must. Get. To. The. Gym. Or move to CA/AZ. That would work, too...
