Nashbar Steel Cyclocross bike?

I'm crossposting from the cyclocross forum to here...

https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_526536_-1_10000__203058
What do you guys think? Seems like a heck of a deal for a 105 equipped bike. Looking at the geometry, it seems more like a cyclocross bike than their aluminum cross frame (headtube not too slack, chainstays look long enough for big tires and fenders). I'm looking for a commuter, but racing it is not out of the question either.

The steel frame offerings from Nashbar are interesting. Yesterday with a 20% off coupon you could have got The cross bike for $637 shipped to your door. I like the Nashabr touring bike I wonder if its any better than the Bikesdirect Windsor Tourist. Its only curiosity though I DO NOT need another bike.

Seems like a helluva deal to me. To buy the components alone at retail prices would set you back nearly that much. It probably isn't going to be anyone's bike of choice to try and win the CX National Champion title, but it looks like it would make a really nice commuter.

It's there, at least, the steel touring one is still in China,
boxes getting loaded in the Shipping Container.

may be out of stock, before they discount them,
or then probably because those in your size is down to Zero.

I don't know if you'd get a straight answer or not, I've never dealt with Nashbar, but you may want to call and inquire as to the quantities that they have in stock, in your size. An additional $113 savings isn't worth much if it's for the wrong sized bike.

I buy from Nashbar pretty often and their CS is usually top notch. FWIW the pull-down menu shows all sizes available.

Looks like a bargain to me, particularly w/ 105 components. Geometry looks good as well.

One concern I would have is that it's not clear from the photos whether it has mounts for fenders and racks, and the specs do not say either. It wouldn't make much of a commuter if it doesn't have eyelets for fenders and a rear rack.

It looks like it has one set of eyelets front and rear for fenders/rack. Pretty good value for the 105 drivetrain, but the wheels are cruddy (Alex) and the crank is geared too high for my tastes.

Very interesting. If I hadn't gotten a Surly cross check frame for $175 I'd be in for this one.

I didn't look at the geometry but I wonder if it's traditional or if its long top tube design?
I'd wait till the frame is available for the usual $175 but maybe they wont offer it.

If you need a full bike I'd say $650 (wait for a free shipping deal?) is a good price for a steel cx/touring bike with CF fork, eyelets and 105 brifters. It'd be nice if it were 105 cranks as well though.
Way better than something like the Specialized Allez Steel for the same money with only DT shifters and narrow tires.

i wonder if its a heavy frame or if its a decent feeling steel? The tubing in the pic looks unecessarily oversize.

If you saw the inside of my house you would understand. There are 5 bikes in my dining room alone. I was selling a bike to someone today and they asked me what I rode. I finally mentioned my favorite bike was a Mini Velo, but I was kinda speechless there for a while deciding what to say. N+1 can get out of hand...
