to be honest, i thought that would make more sense.

but it does have chain tugs and they could've initially bent slightly, but not any longer.

it's not stretching a lot, it's just my first non-derailleur bike and i'm surprised at how much a chain stretches at a few hundred miles / month.

it's just an interested process to watch.

looking through the earlier photos in this thread is interesting. i put about 50 more miles on it and there's been a slight loosening in the chain

The next question is: is the slight loosening in the chain affecting your ride? Can't you readjust the chain tension by moving the rear wheel backwards?

It shouldn't take more than 60 seconds to make the adjustment.

To be honest, tightening the chain does make the ride enormously better.

Also moving wheel back does back a difference in how the bike handles (it's moved about half an inch so far).

The tugs are end the end of their adjustment, so maybe I'll break the chain and take a link out (never done that before!)

I was assuming you were tripping on minute stretch I suggest you refer to ILTB's post

My orange bike celebrated 2 years on the road this week, and also passed the mileage on my 18sp CX bike (which is 4.5 years old). 5369mi to 5409mi as of this morning.

8703km/5409mi
£267/$446
.03p/km
8.24¢/mi

I have new bar tape and new tires (700x37c) and tubes ready to go, but no time to install them. This will ruin the ratios a bit. I will also need to find some matching orange paint so I can touch up some crash damage.

30/03/2014 13300 km

Now using the fair weather commuter, based on a Scott Speedster S20 FB frame. It's a road bike, Shimano 105 groupset, with rear rack added and 28 tyres for comfort and better puncture resistance - and 38 spoke wheels.

It has some 1100 kms and has cost me around 800 euros to build and the now new tyres cost me around 70 euros (Continental 4 Seasons 28 mm).

You have no idea how funny this is. Most Chinese train journeys take place on trains that run about 45km/h and max at 80km/h. Thst max is seldome seenand most of the journey is spent between 45 & 60. A typical journey will involve well over an hour of sitting on sidings. This is on over crowded trains (they sell tickets well over the number of seats that they have) with toilets that cannot be described (if they can even be reached through the crowd).

With as short as your visit will be I suspect you are not scheduled for any of these trains and will only be on the 'showcase' D & G trains; but, rest assured, those trains are not typical of Chinese rail service.

I know.

I'll only use the SMT and the G84 train.

The reverse irony is that most Germans think their trains suck.

Well!

Crap ... I wore out my rear tire ... I wore it right down to the canvas after about 870 or miles and got a flat on the way to work!

Luckily there was a Halford's where I bought a Schwalbe Lugano (23 x 700) and a new tube and had it installed ... for £28.

£15.99 for the tire (Schwalbe Lugano 23-622)
£3.99 for the tube (presta long)
£8.99 for the 10 min service

£28 is $46 today ... so I'll add that to the running costs with the next update!

edit: that's karma biting me in the ass for being a rabble rouser in the other thread!
