All the old, state owned breweries were sold to foreign big breweries (Amstel, Heineken etc). Now all the Serbian beers taste the same - worse than they used to. Not to bad, but not as good as they used to be. However, there are a few decend ones still being made in the south-middern part of the country.

But only the batch that is produced (and sold) in the southern part of the country.

ok ... just adjusted the position of the rear wheel to take up the chain slack.

it's now at the limit of threads on the chain tugs ... let's see if I can get another 1000km out of the chain or so.

this is how far the chain has stretched ...

opinions/suggestions/comments?





edit: i guess at some point, i can take a link out of the chain and slide the wheel forward to get some more use out of the original equipment. in other words, that would bring the rear wheel position back into the adjustment range of the chain tugs? i assume that would allow the rear wheel the slide foward by the link length/2? does that make sense?

why?

i can't imagine that's much stretch

i would estimate around .8cm or about .31 inches

now to figure out how many links I have with a 44/16 ratio?

so, it seems that i've stretch roughly .31 inches over 42.5 links or about 0.087 inches over 12 links

You could always ditch the chain tugs, too. It's pretty easy to cinch the wheel in place without them.

yeah, i actually thought they'd be in worse shape ... but it's all surface rust.

I was working on the assumption you'd started at the inside of the track end and it had stretched far enough back that the tugs were no longer helpful, from what you're saying your wheel started much further out in the track ends?

To give you an idea, some schools of thought say change your chain at 0.5% which is 0.0025 inch per link, that's more like 1/16th inch over 12 links if you want the easier route. Seems silly yes, but since chainstretch is just the rollers wearing down on your chain, they can then prematurely wear down your cog and chainring as well.

interesting ... seems like a lot of wear for only 700 miles or so?

let's see how it goes.

Does seem excessive I agree, but I dug this up from SB for you.

maybe i'll just run it until it breaks and then change the ratios (44/16) to something more interesting as the commute is flat and i'd like a little more speed as 100rpm gets me only an average of 34.4km/h (21.5mph)

There's a few hills here but the fixed gear I ride the most is 52x16 and it's pretty fun, I've considered getting a smaller cog.

The weather is starting to get nice, so I can see everyone's attitudes changing and they're becoming more pleasant. They're also starting to shed some of the layers of wool, which is always nice since I spend most of my time on a university campus...

Are you sure the wheel is not being pulled forward in the axle slots?
