Well it turns out "they" were right, North Carolina is (barely) warmer than Denver today, the beaches are lovely, and I rode in today despite the 19 degree temperature outside. How cold was everyone's commute this morning? Anyone have a warm commute they want to brag about?

I will not be commuting the first half of this week - but Thurs / Fri it will be back into the 20s in the AM and 30s in the PM so I plan on getting back on the bike! :-)

Sub 20 temps make me not want to ride much. If it's a week with 30s and one day is 18 I'll usually ride, but if it's a week of single digits and one day 18, I usually won't ride.

29 degree ride into work here in Florida. The 29MPH gust from the North the whole way in was horrible. I could barely get above 16MPH....unreal. At times I felt I was going to go backwards

Despite the multiple layers of cold weather cycling clothes, my toes and fingers were numb after my 7 mile ride.

I miss the bike rides that I used to go on when I lived on the coast of Spain...those were amazing views and something that I will never forget! Not living near the beach now is just so depressing.

I go across the Gandy Bridge every day, if it's too windy out on the water (normally from the north in the AM) I won't bike. With panniers, that wind will try to move me into traffic and then back over the rail. No thanks... also no shelter from the wind on days like this morning + a 17 mile commute puts me in a difficult spot for gear... too much and I'm pouring sweat.

Hah! My average speed commuting is usually 13.5/14mph in and 15/16mph home.

Does it get boring riding on flat terrain all the time or does it just feel awesome feeling really fast all the time?

It gets boring for me.. Not that I don't like going fast, going out and hammering out 20+ mph rides is fun, but it doesn't help you become as strong as people who climb a lot. We have some pretty scenery with beaches, but nothing like a fun descent through hills/mountains to really make me smile.

I zone out....only when there are other people on the trail do I pay attention, otherwise I stare at the sky....but yeah, it gets boring. A good boring, after my work moves in March, I'll be riding on the street with crazy cagers on the way to work, so....I am enjoying this ride.

My ride isn't too boring. Parts of it go over the ocean so every so often, I get see dolphins

I bike along the banks of the Potomac River. Really nice, unless the sun is reflecting off the ice, in which case it is blinding. Started getting motion sickness the other day from the blinding light flashing on and off from the tree shadows.

Sounds great. This summer I'm going to ride from Cleveland down to DC. I'll take the Allegeny trail from Pittsburg and follow the Potomac. I hear there's lots of good camping. Which part do you ride? Do you have any favorite spots to camp?

I've never ridden up that way.

My normal commute is from Old Town Alexandria to Mile 5 on the C&O. A great resource is the C&O Companion app on bikewashington.org. Lots of free camping all along the C&O, but trains roll through the area pretty frequently, so bring ear plugs or pick your stops carefully. My favorite campsite is Killiansburg Caves at Mile 75, which is very quiet and has lots of room. Near Antietam battlefield.

Even inland in the PNW, it was around 40 when I rode in this morning. The Weather Channel tells me it's 49 right now. They say we might even see the sun sometime next week.

I work at the Bay Pines hospital coming from St Pete. So I go on the trail behind the marina. Going over that trail at high tide, you can see dolphins sometimes, its pretty nice. I end up exiting at the KOA.

It was 66 here in Honolulu this morning and everyone had heavy jackets, gloves, and knit hats on. I am not kidding.

We have a lot of bad weather here. It's usually not severe, but there are lots and lots of days with some annoying element of the weather. It's too hot or too cold or too humid or too wet or too windy. Chicago is known as The Windy City, but New York is very windy, especially near the Hudson River, which is where I am. As I remember, Boston is even windier. On winter days, it can be brutal.

But it's gorgeous. I've realized I absolutely adore the Hudson River. Today, the river was partially frozen. Lovely! I can't think of a place on the entire river where you don't have a spectacular view. I haven't explored much north of Albany, and I think I should.
