Android phone app that records trip average speed AND moving average speed
I used MyTracks for years, but it has started to tell me than on a ride of an hour or more with stop lights, re-grouping waits, trip time and moving time are within 20 seconds of each other! I have not been able to find any setting changes that can fix this. At the end of a ride I would like to know MPH average for the whole ride and MPH average moving. I have looked at screen shots of a lot of apps that seem to do trip time average speed only.

Since average speed has to do with "motion", I fail to see the relevance of including "stop time" when doing a calculation involving "average speed". This would kind of be like telling your boss that you worked an extra two hours and when he/she asked you what you did in those two extra hours you tell him/her that you had two hours of coffee breaks.
Regardless, your android has a calculator. Take the total mileage of the route and divide by the total time of your choice ( in hours ) and you have your answer in MPH. ( Not that it will mean anything if you include the time you lollygag around but hey, whatever makes your day FWIW ).

I think I downloaded Mytracks at some point but deleted it because it wouldn't do what I thought it would do. Doing speed/timing calculations by way of a phone GPS system is likely not going to be really accurate IMO anyway. If you're poking along riding up a long hill at 5 mph ( or less ) you have to wonder how accurately the app ( via the satellite signal ) is going to be able to triangulate the calculation for your speed ( seeing that many times it has a problem just trying to track you period. I think that all of this just goes with the limitations of consumer electronics. I think when NASA tracks objects in space they are likely using more sophisticated technology.
Anyway, I do have Trimble Outdoor Navigator on my android. It does tracking and has stats for avg.speed, trip time and such. It wasn't free though and I really haven't used it enough to know whether or not it is accurate. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Sadly you might have to just use a standard bike computer as I'm sure there are some that will include both total trip time and total moving time. I love the android stuff but I'm not giving up my bike computer because it's just too useful of a tool.
Good luck, I hope you find something that works.

The Recumbent Quant
A problem with MyTracks is that it is no longer calculating time at stoplights etc. properly. I could just look at the time on my phone for total trip time, but I don't know how much time was spent at stoplights and stop signs. And, despite that some might think it meaningless, I AM interested in the total time for my commute into work and average speed with stop signs and stop lights averaged in.

GPS on your phone should be quite fine as far as accuracy goes. I find when I ride the same route on different days, I get very close total distances, etc.
