good ride today and then..a new bike!
Had a great ride on my Tarmac this morning. A dawn patrol 35 miler with a stiff headwind going out and a nice tail wind coming back, always a winner.
Grabbed a coffee after the ride and I made the mistake of opening the local craigslist. I won't bore you with all the details
but cut ahead 3 hours and I am 40 miles away from home picking up my new to me Pinarello f4:13, just built with full Sram Red 10 speed group and a new set of Mavic Ksyrium SL wheels with carbon/red anodized hubs and bladed spokes. Bike is very low miles, almost no miles from what I can tell. (Pictures tomorrow I promise) This bike is stupid light, I have yet to take it to the shop where all my bike stuff is but I would expect this to be under 16 lbs..maybe right at 15. The guy went nuts with titanium bolts, ceramic bearings etc and was prepared to do a lot of riding but is having an issue with bone spurs in his neck so now I have the bike.
Look carbon pedals, Blackburn carbon bottle racks, carbon bars, carbon stem..all the Pinarello branded goodies.
One issue has cropped up, so Help! I needed to lift the seat up a little less than an inch so I loosened the seat clamp and expected just to move the seatpost up but it is tight, real tight in the frame. I was able to get it up alright but it was a feat I tell you. What do I do to this post to free it up? I can rotate it with difficulty so I believe I can lube it but with what..any suggestions?
Got it weighed in today at 16.4 lbs w/o water and tools.

First, congratulations on what I believe is an awesome bike.
As for the seat post - a couple of thoughts. I'm assuming that it's a carbon seat post. If the previous owner didn't use a carbon paste, that might be a factor. Alternatively, is it the correct diameter? In my experience some CF parts can be off spec, particularly if they are aftermarket components. You mentioned that the previous owner "built up" the bike.
Never the less, once it's dialed in, it should be an amazing bike to ride.

It is a Pinarello carbon post, must be off spec to be so tight. Being in my living room when I was doing this I used some olive oil, it is an Italian bike, right?
When I get to my shop tomorrow I will attempt to remove it, give it a light sanding and reinsert with a light film of moly.

There's a special paste for installing carbon fiber sestposts. Use it. It also keeps the seatpost from slipping because you don't want to over tighten it as well.

No. Regular cycle grease isn't any good. Most CF components have a clear coat finish. Grease makes the surface too slippery and seatposts can slip. The normal fix is tighten them more and that leads to damage. There's a special paste for this.

Agree with CF grease.
Should also be a torque spec for bolt tightness.
ENJOY

Pinarello! A day of set up and squeaked in a 15 mile ride. All went well. Biggest issue was freeing up the seatpost, all done with that.
Did the weigh in after riding today 16 lbs, 6 oz, heavier than I would have expected but the geometry is relaxed somewhat and it is a smooth ride and 2.4 lbs lighter than my Tarmac

I met this guy and his wife prior to the sale and we talked for a bit before even looking at the bike. He is an ex Marine now working for Customs and seemed to be a no BS guy and was not pushy in the slightest.
The bike, as well, looked exactly as I expected it to look and he gave me a blow by blow description about buying the frame and having the LBS build it to his specs..it all fit well.
The other trump card was I paid less for this bike than the cost of the Sram Red group. He had this advertised for months with no lookers just a few calls so he was glad to see it move.

Nice score for that Pinnie, with that group set on it you most likely made money just picking it up.
Big Aura has a good point, however I wouldn't sweat that this is a fake, most of the "Chinarellos" are fairly obvious when you take a careful look at the frames, graphics and details. Some don't even need a really close look, from seeing a few of the fakes posted here. If it became an issue, do some due diligence with the serial number.
I agree 100% with using carbon assembly paste after it is removed, cleaned and sanded smooth, please be sure you cleaned the seat tube out, and check it for any slight imperfections, or perhaps some grit/sand, that could cause the seat post to stick, also, if you haven't already done so, since you finally got the post out.
Congrats, well scored.

The serial number under the BB, is under the cable guide, under the clear coat ,I have not found a way to verify the number but the location and application checks.
