Carbon seatpost setup question

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Carbon seatpost setup question

Just bought a Ritchey carbon seat post for my bike(Nashbar carbon). Is it necessary to use carbon assembly paste/spray/similar product on the seat post before riding?

When I didn't use paste, my seat post kept slipping down every ride

Bikes: Felt Brougham, Lotus Prestige, Cinelli Xperience,

Where it may not be necessary, it is easier.

Also for those with experience with multiple carbon assembly products, which one works best? Thanks

I have gotten individual packets of it for free from my LBS, and they were labelled Felt and Tacx. I have a tube of Park Tools carbon assembly paste. They all seem to work exactly the same, as far as I can tell. However, I have never done carbon to carbon, only carbon to aluminum.

Tacx works fine. A little goes a long way. I've had the same tube for 4 years or so. If I ever run out, I'd buy whichever one was cheap and avaialable.

Using paste is a really good idea. It significantly reduces the amount of torque necessary to get things to stay put.

This. I have the Ritchey WCS UD seatpost now and did it "right" this time. I used FSA carbon paste. couple bucks from my LBS. There's a thread somewhere (google it) about one particular brand that has rather large 'beads' which indented the guys handlebar surface. avoid that one

I also got a free packet of Tacx from my LBS that I have been using for the last 2 or 3 years that sits in a zip lock bag next to my tools

I concur that you should use it, and just get whatever is cheapest/easiest. Oh, that's what you're doing...carry on!
