On vacation this week in sunny AZ. I've been reading the various threads about Mt. Lemmon in Tuscon, and decided that today would be the day. A glorious sunny day, as are seemingly most days in the desert.

Unfortunately, my bad directions ended up with 8 unneccessary miles riding up (and back down) starting from the Safeway store corner of Sabino Canyon Rd & E Tanque Verde Road, only to discover that this road was the wrong one. A few miles further along E Tanque Verde is another Safeway store at the corner of E Catalina Hwy. My bad.

Finally got off along the correct road by 10am. Forecast temperatures of 93 today - late start. Oh well.

First, I have to say what a beautiful area this is. The views from the Mt. Lemmon road are fantastic. I just wish I could have seen all of them. By 1:30, contrary to JPPE's comment that "anybody can ride this", I quit, or should I say, made the decision to terminate the ride before I had to be rescued by someone. Leg cramps and nausea were enough. 17 miles and 4300 ft. At one point along the ride I decided to give up cycling entirely. With the perspective of a few hours recovery, I've decided not to sell the bikes. Still not sure about attempting this ride again.

All in all, a good day. Beautiful scenery, challenged to my limits, and live to see another. That's a good day.
Nice shot. I couldn't do it. Wish I could. 4300ft of climbing from where you started puts you well over 6000ft(?) maybe close to 7000ft elevation. Maybe a touch of altitude sickness?

Such a nice shiny black vehicle - I'd be terrified of the bike pedal being so close to the paint. OH, I get it now ... took me a minute to realize that the photo was superimposed. Nicely done! The pedal is too close to the paint for my comfort though.

Yes, I was over 6,000 ft however if I were to hazard a guess I would say my fail was primarily a result of dehydration. The temperature wasn't anything out of the ordinary from where I live, however the humidity is much dryer here and the wind may have been a factor as well. That and perhaps undernourished. The elevation gain on the ride is not beyond what I've ridden before either, just never unending like this ride. A day later and my emotional wounds remain ... however I've been contemplating my return to this "hill" which is a sign of emotional healing.

Almost forgot to post: a lovely 24 mile ride with my wife through Paradise Valley.

Rode 25.7 miles this afternoon, beautiful weather with mild temps and an unbelievable 37% RH. Had stiff WNW winds to make it interesting and keep me honest.

Bruised, nice bicycle, that is one sweet looking new ride there.

Mounted up my new lights and took a dusk => total darkness ride on the mtb on local dirt roads. This works quite well. I was out about an hour and a half, didn't note mileage. Wife thinks I'm crazy, also ordered me not to lose any more weight tonight, lol.

1. My wife knows I'm crazy, well beyond any doubt about that one.
2. Is it alright to lose weight tomorrow? Or say, the next few days?

Had a big temperature drop this morning from high 80's yesterday to 55º when I loaded the van. Started the ride at 57º and couldn't get the legs to do much of anything until my second lap when the got into the 70's. 45 total miles for today.

Rode 26+ miles again, this afternoon, once more it was beautiful fall weather. Temperature was 75°F, RH was ~45%, rare for here, and 12 mph NW winds, great riding conditions. Fall is my favorite time of year, now bring on Thanksgiving and I'll be in heaven.

Ten miles this evening after work. Included two hills which seem puny after last weekend's Hilly Hundred.

Rode to our local Home Depot and back, then to a graphics place for my "DWN WTH VWLS" t-shirt, up to our local Walgreen's (they still haven't developed my film), then back home. . .

A comfortable 26.8 miles yesterday exploring new (to me) areas of the city. Rode along gravel pathways, underground tunnels, concrete paved MUP's, and the usual solitary residential streets and bike lanes. Sadly only two more days of cycling in the sunshine - my wife says that today is NOT a cycling day, we're going shopping.

Another chilly morning that turned into a perfect day for cycling. 35 moderately paced miles in case my riding buddies want to do a 67 mile, back to back over the weekend, that they've been talking about.

Did my usual "Le Tour"/yard sale run (didn't buy any guitars this time). Don't think it even got past 80 degrees the whole time. . .

Twenty miles to and from work today. Left home at 6:30am and it was dark! Gosh, who woulda thunk?

28 miles in the middle of the work day (which means working remotely from home - yay!). I'm still finding cool new roads in this area. Now lots of them have short unpaved sections, including one of today's roads. I have the Specialized Diverge on order. Can't wait to try it out on some of this gravelly stuff!

Chilly—in Florida? Okay, I'll bite. What temp is chilly in Tampa?
I'm still going out 8-8:30am (Northern Nevada) when its 36° to start. Half way through the usual 15.5 mile ride its 55 or better and the heavy gloves are too much. Without 'em I freeze my witto finners off. Its still long sleeve t-shirt and lite bike jacket weather. Not quite time for the heavy jacket and fleece lined pants. (Die-hard every-day rider).

Its relative, Greybeard, If you have relatives in Florida you come visit them as soon as its cooler weather up north, or west. Its been in to the tights and a ls jersey the entire week on NW Florida, for me. Our lows were a mild 48°F in central Escambia County, FL (far NW Florida county) and the highs hit the mid 70's to about 80 on the coast. We are super fortunate here when its the fall weather patterns, makes up for the spring and summer heat/humidity. I prefer colder weather myself, it can get in the temps you mentioned here in the winter, I take advantage of these days. Another die-hard everyday rider, just a different way of livin"!

Forgot to post yesterday's ride, another nice, comfortable 27+ miles in the afternoon, thankfully!!!

Started out with a scheduled 67 mile ride this morning. Sometime during the ride, it was decided to round it off to 70 miles but we ended up doing 71 miles so one of my riding buddies can break his personal best. Great day for a bike ride.

Yes, I went riding today. My wife was busy with errands today (and well, to be honest, she's not really that into bicycles anyway ), so I met up with my sister and brother-in-law, and we all went for a nice quiet scenic 12.5 mile ride in the backroads west of Richmond, VA.
