Anyone tried these? 20x1.6", only 385g. Have been considering the Kwest also. Don't want to spend a lot on a bike that won't get many miles. Almost went with Marathons but bought some 27's for a road bike recently and they were HEAVY - definitely slowed the bike down.

I saw these Citizens on a Tern at REI yesterday. Looked like a reasonable choice.

they're "OK" for typical quality bike tires but once i switched them out for kojaks on my tern I never really looked back and gave them away. The sidewalls on the citizen are stiff and hard compared to the supple and clothlike sidewalls on the kojak which helps alot with the rolling efficiency. But the tread life for the citizens are really good since i rode 2000km's on them before switching them out they still had alot of tread left.

The citizens are in schwalbe's "active" lineup, the performance lineup is where all the good stuff is. Like the kojaks and big apples and marathon surpremes. You can feel the difference by just touching them. But if you are barely riding it then I would just stick some kenda's on there and call it a day.

I actually have some, those are takeoffs from brandnew Terns, when folks wanted big apples or Marathons pluses . the are not bad tires, just not as good as the performance lineup from Shwalbe

Well, how would you rate the standard Marathons as far as feel? I've been really pleased with an old set of 700x28 on a Peugeot, but the 27x1 1/4" seemed twice the weight. I know they changed the formulation, but this is ridiculous. I'm finally getting used to them after about six outings but they changed the riding dynamics of the bike for sure.

Btw, I had the Kenda's also, on a rigid mtn bike. They seemed fine at the time. They're 440g in 20x1.5". Sure would be nice to compare the same tires on the same bike. They also sell the Kwest in 65psi or 100psi. Higher psi/higher price = more supple? Any opinions on this?

This BF has to compete with a garage full of vintage bikes. I really love the NWT but doubt I'll be racking up big miles on it.

why does it have to be a choice between schwalbe and kenda? why not try something different?

fast rolling durable slicks like panaracer minits tough - 20 x 1.25 @ 210g - 100psi and around 20usd



or

primo comet 20 x 1.35 @ 280g - 100psi, also can be found for around 20-30usd (also comes in a kevlar version $$)

I emailed BF about something else a couple of weeks ago and a tech/mechanic called back (surprise!). I asked about tires at the end and he recommended the comets also. But I've got some trails around here and have been enjoying riding them with this little bike, so I wanted some tread (although the Haros don't have any), and I wanted 1.5" min. And like you say, with Kevlar, these cost some money.

Anyway, decided not to cheap out so ordered some Marathon Racers I found at a decent price. Guess you can't have it all - low weight, responsiveness, durability - without paying for it. I may report back when I get them mounted.

Got the Marathon Racers mounted today. Very nice. Had to laugh when I pulled them out of the bag - the pair of them weigh less than one 27" Marathon. Really like the tread and the feel.
