Favorite component brand (chains, cassettes)

Just changed out a sloppy chain and cassette on my MTB. Used Shimano Hyperglide stuff for the job. Was sort of wondering though- there were several brands to choose from- like SRAM and Sunrace... do you have a preference for certain brands, and if so- why?

If everything else was equal, my bias is in favor of Shimano. In real life, however, I buy whatever seems to me to be the best deal at the time. Functionally, I'm not seeing any difference.

Chains I usually go for KMC.
Road Cassette: SRAM xg-1190 (because it's one of the lightest and most durable on the market)
MTB Cassette: right now is Shimano XTR, but only because I haven't tried the highest level SRAM stuff yet.

I like Shimano FD and Suntour RD (including current by Microshift - Shimano compatible), Wippermann stainless chains.
I'm a huge fan of Miche custom cassettes.
My best friction shifting ever, though, is C-Record 8sp.

Shimano for cassettes, because they have the tooth counts I want at a price that doesn't make me fall out of my chair.
Shimano for chains, because I've yet to find a chain that works any better than any other, and the CN-6701 is $20.

No kidding.

FWIW, I'm currently riding Shimano, my wife is using IRD.

I have yet to see any difference in chain performance from one brand to another...

Is there a reason Sram stuff has to be so "visually Challenged"? It's like the Homely Girl in High School no one wanted to Date. Or you did and She said no.

All Campy for me. I love the ergo shifters. On one of my bikes I have their Shamal Mille wheelset with the blue brake pads and the stopping power is nothing short of amazing--as good as with disc brakes but with a much more controlled feel to them. My Campy chains seem to last forever for me.

The Orbea road is all SRAM components with KMC chain. The Giant hybrid is all Shimano components with KMC chain. The Mongoose drop bar ATB is all SRAM components with KMC chain.

I'm detecting a pattern here...

NB: cassettes and chains are consumables, they wear out in normal use.

cogs and chains of steel .. I have moved on to an IGH, so I can use more durable wider chains.

there I get old type full bushing types, last buy was Whipperman ..
surly stainless steel chain ring and R'off cogs can both be flipped over and used 2X.
