Globe caramel ......new tires and rims?

First of all I am new at this and I am also VERY bitten by the bike bug. I was 270+lbs and now Im at 258 and falling :>.

I have a 2009 globe caramel hybrid bike. It has 38mm tires and single walled rims (I think). I love the bike and it is perfect for 8-13 mile rides in my neighborhood.
My rides are fairly leisurely 10-12 mph. I just has a spoke break and got it fixed. I have several questions:
1) I want to go a little faster 12-14 mph.......What is a good tire to upgrade to? 32mm?
2) Should I look at doubled walled rims?

While your stock tires are kind of heavy, lighter tires won't really do that much. They'll make it a little easier to climb hills, and you'll accelerate from a stop quicker, but the best way to go faster is to just keep riding and get yourself in better shape. As you "get your legs",you'll get more speed. Now if you are doing alot of hills, and would like to make climbing a little easier, then lighter tires wouldn't be a bad idea. Note, there are other 38mm tires that are lighter and have less rolling resistance than the tires you have now,so you don't necessarily need to go skinnier.

For one popped spoke,I'd say no. You're not that heavy. I'm under 170 and I've popped a spoke twice. If the wheels weren't given a proper initial tensioning, then it's possible for anyone to pop a spoke. If you wind up breaking more, then I'd look into it,but for now I think you'd be ok.
