I have to ride almost 10 minutes to get here.
My old house was only 1.5 minutes from here. Life's just not fair.
Funny, but I got into road biking to keep my fitness up when the MTB trails were snowed over.

Same here -- 90 seconds to singletrack trails that others drive 100 miles to ride. I wasn't even a cyclist when we bought this house, it was just good luck.

I had started back mountain biking for a few years when we moved from the Bay Area, which has some good mountain biking but a ton of restrictions and tsk tsk tsk hiker sorts. First trail I hit was that one by the house. Kept waiting for the "No Bicycles!" sign or someone yelling at me. All I got was more single track and people saying "good morning!"

HP, if you hadn't been acting like a child, you wouldn't have scraped your knee.
So: well done! I hope you didn't scuff your road shoes.
I don't recognize the trail, but there is so much gorgeous riding around Breck, I'm glad you got to sample it.
RacerEx I've MTB'd a bit around your neck of the woods as well and it too also is especially delicious.
I am totally stoked, dudes and dudettes, that the Masters Racing Forum has taken a turn toward the dirty side.

Well, my June training camp is coming to a close after today. I put in 1018 miles with 69.5 K ft elevation since June 1. I was planning one more big ride today but I am zonked as you can imagine. Strange in that it is more mental (CNS?) than physical fatigue.

It was great to meet & ride with you. You are a beast! If you are ever in SoCal, let me know- I will put together all the relentless climbing routes for you and (most importantly) tell you where the water is.
Safe travels home.

I fell in the first three minutes. Mostly because I was looking down instead of forward and didn't totally have my $hit together. We had a little dip and then a short steep uphill, maybe only 3 feet in length. But I wasn't ready for it, was in the wrong gear and had a zero-speed topple-over fall. Also it was immediately obvious to me that I should not have tried to go up the big boulder, riding on the dirt part would be the thing to do. Things like that happen when you're not looking where you're going, I guess.
I probably did scuff my road shoes a little. I am going to cry the day something happens to them. I love those shoes.
Too bad you didn't make it up to Breck. That way you could have seem me fall and get nicked by heat/altitude all in the same week. Good luck today, whatever you decided to do on the bike!

Last ride of the Colorado trip today with Valygrl. Fifty miles and around 5000 ft climbing (have I mentioned the altitude has been killing me?!). So we kept it to a nice chatty sociable pace in the foothills of Denver. It's been really great riding in Colorado, especially with my BF peeps. Thanks for the effort everyone made to meet up, it really made the whole trip so much fun.
Here's Valygrl (in pink) and me (with green arm warmers) coming up Lookout Mountain:
Tomorrow am we catch Amtrak's California Zephyr to cross the Rockies & Sierra Nevadas.

Really beautiful train route that the California Zephyr uses. Highly recommend. Although we're not there yet & we have a flight to make still & the train is running late...
Sierra Nevadas are very beautiful. This part of trip is more high up in the mountains (whereas crossing the Rockies we tended to be down low in canyons). So today has been all about the trees.
