East Coast Clyde visiting SoCal. GMR/GRR ride on 5/20!

IMPORTANT EDIT: I'm planning to ride GMR/GRR on Sunday, 5/19, not the 20th as my erroneous title indicates /brainfart

I'm going to be in SoCal next week and departing on Monday the 20th. I'm planning to do the SFVBC MMMM on 5/18. I did it last year and it was a blast. The SFVBC were excellent hosts as well!

I may also ride 39 earlier in the week to Crystal Lake or 2. Not sure and will depend on work schedule.

In order to finish my trip in a high note (literally!), I'm planning to ride GMR/GRR to at least Mt Baldy Village. If my legs have anything left may push on the Ski Lifts as well.

Would be great to meet other SoCal Clydes on either the MMMM or get a group together for GMR/GRR. Please register any interest here. I'm flexible with GMR/GRR start times, just need to return my rental bike to the LBS in Pasadena before 5pm.

I think I'm already connected with several of you via Strava. https://app.strava.com/athletes/23861

Hey, Andrew--

Just going to be in town for the week? Lotta climbing you're looking at. Good luck.

I don't think I'll be able to hook up w/ya: my daughter is getting married on Saturday (5/18) & I'll have relatives in town that week. But here's my typical schedule if you want to hook up on any of them:

Mon - Recovery ride 'round Chatsworth after work or day off
Tu - Rose Bowl Training Ride 5-7pm
Wed - Recovery ride 5-6:30pm
Thu - Rose Bowl Training Ride again
Fri - Recovery ride 'round Chatsworth again
Sat - Montrose Training Ride 8-11am
Sun - Race

The Wednesday ride might be up your alley: they start in Porter Ranch and head over to Simi Valley. I'm only with them the first 5 or so miles to the base of Santa Suzanna Pass before heading home.

Enjoy your stay.

Hi Mark - hearty congratulations on your daughter's wedding! I'll definitely give the Wednesday ride a shot. I'm planning to pick up the rental from Incycle that afternoon. I'm also interested in spectating at one of those Rose Bowl rides, so maybe I'll see you go by (quickly) on Thursday too.

If you were doing GMR/GRR to Village on 5/19 you might see the team of ladies I ride with Team Unlikely Cyclist is riding up (8 am start - leaving our parking area at Boulder Springs - residential street just off GMR at last traffic light before gate).

Aw crap! So that's who you are. Well, as you can see from my avatar, I'm indisposed.

It looks like you were relaxing last time you rode up there, I hereby cast the gauntlet- see if you can take jsigone down a peg. Go to the segment page and click on the clyde club and you'll see that we've added a bunch of clydes to the mountain. Go seize the palm, if you can.

I just realized I had my dates confused. I will be riding on Sunday the 19th so would be nice to tag along. I'll plan on meeting y'all there at 8am - thanks for mentioning!

Oh boy. I'm currently 7/14 so that's a pretty big jump. Furthermore, I do recall that ride being the most difficult thing I'd ever done on a bike (I am from the relatively flat east coast after all). On the plus side, this year my weight is down and I think my fitness is up. So, in the immortal words of John Candy, "I'LL DO IT!!!"

Best of luck in Las Vegas. Hopefully we can ride together the next time I'm out there.

Wise man! The C/A group rode with a bunch from the Unlikely Cyclist team. When we all met in the morning, for a long time, I was the only C/A member and only guy there. I was thinking it was going to be a great ride....me and a bunch of women. Then TrojanHorse showed up and well.....that was the end of that dream!

Mine is NOTHING like TrojanHorse's, but I had surgery on my foot on Wednesday and probably won't be cleared to ride by then. Hopefully next time! Have fun!

Bring your bike to the Rose Bowl. Lots of other riders are on the road at the same time as us. Sometime's, there's shouting, but that's just us shouting to ourselves to watch out for other people we pass so we don't do any damage. It's a 3.1 mile loop with plenty of side streets and climbing around the neighborhood to add a little diversity. Alot of eye-candy (if you're into that sort of thing ), and nice geography & things to see (the actual Rose Bowl stadium, soccer games, RC airplanes & others).

I'd love to do the GMR thing with you all, but it usually doesn't fit into my training schedule. Maybe sometime in the off-season.

East Coast Clyde visiting SoCal. GMR/GRR ride on 5/20!

Sorry...Sadly the team has postponed our assault on the village. Most of us are doing Great Western Bike Rally on 5/26 (replaced cancelled event with that ride a week earlier). So we decided to do GMR to Village at later date.

Thanks for the update and good luck at the GWBR! Hopefully we can ride together some other time.

For those interested, I'm still planning to ride GMR/GRR with an 8am start time on Sunday, 5/19.
