So when you say you broke it in 10 minutes, did you just put it on and it broke?

Other than the fork, what do you think about the '06 6500 since you have actually ridden one? My pastor is thinking about getting one and I told him that the fork is wonderful for the sidewalk, hehe. How 'but th rest of it though? Crank arms staying tight? Brakes work decently for mild XC trail rides?

The rest of the bike worked flawlessly and wonderfully, Shifting with the xt rear and deore front was flawless, Quick and smooth. This bike is a powerhouse climber and the tires are good for most trail surfaces. although alittle slippery on the damp roots. Cranks are good so far. Next month I'm going to put my Lx hollowtech cranks on and my xt front. So far I have changed the fork, the brakes to the avid bb5's the stem to my truvativ (its lighter) and my s-works wide boy flat bars. Bike is stiff and fairly light. very managable.

Reading comprehension is a wonerful thing...especially when you read between the lines and can coax a little more info out of someone if you know it's there.

When someone referst to "today" they usually say "today". When someone refers to "Saturday" they usually mean a day that is Saturday and not "today". Therefore I would read this thread and think the OP has owned this bike at least a week and ridden it more with the new fork and had a chance to use the new and old brakes.

Or I could be narrow minded and think that since he broke a fork that he just decided to throw on a Reba and some Avid BB's and just let it lay.

Either way it's a valid question.

Really reaching there...

Sooooo I still got what I wanted in the way of info and a swift kick in the pants by a resident brain. I love the forums. You can say anything w/o consequence. Wooohooo. I wish someone would actually say stuff like that in real life. There'd be so much more drama in the world. Just what we need. I LOVE IT! C'mon Dr. J, gimme some more! C'MON! I'm feelin' it.

Let me clear this up because I put the entire story on another thread and kept this one simple. I picked up the bike on friday night the 15th. Rode the bike around my front yard 4 times on saturday the 16th in the afternoon for about 10 minutes stopping only for some minor seat adjustments. I didnt even wheelie off the curb like I do with my 8 year old Hardrock with an 8 year old rockshock on it and the 4th time rolling off the 9 inch tall curb the fork broke. I called the local bike store and they couldnt fit me in until monday wich at this point is tommorrow. So I went on a nice 3 hour trail ride with the fork rigid (since it was stuck rigid anyway) Got home with my arms feeling alittle gooey and after brooding about my bike that I hadnt even ridden for one day yet being broken I decided to put my Reba fork and my avids on. The only reason I changed the brakes at all yesterday was because my reba is disc only. I actually wanted to wait till I did all the rest too, Headset cranks etc. When I called the LBS about the manitou fork the told me that is was hard to believe and I kind of cut him off and said: " listen...I dont really care about that fork anyway so dont get your panties in a bunch. You can send it out after I put the reba on"
I'll see if they upgrade me to a minute or something else if I add money, I need a solid backup fork that will last more than 10 minutes for when I need to service the reba lol.

Oh I meant to add for chelboed that the stock brakes are deore v's and they work quite well. If your buddy doesnt have a problem with the fork then he should enjoy the bike alot.

p.s. If you're a considerate rider, it's time to remove the reflectors before they become more trail trash. That is assuming that you're going to be riding real trails as opposed to gravel paths and the street.
Whats wrong with being a car stereo installer? I just put an entire new system in a brand new 07 porsche 911 could you do that without messing it up? What do you do for a living? Funny how a doctor will think hes better than an auto mechanic until his car gets stuck. A chef at a resturant might think he's better than a guy who installs gas lines until the stove in his resturant stops working, I make good money and do what I enjoy, nothing wrong with that. Maybe if you enjoyed your job as much as I enjoy mine you wouldnt be so bitter.

I install car stereos on high end vehicles as a hobby. it is quite enjoyable. been doing it for about 20 years now. I work in a manufacturing plant doing specialty doors and being the mechanic for all the machines so its nice to do something like that at times and yes the $ can be quite nice too.
you are right it is much more important to enjoy what you do than what you do. fortunately Ive enjoyed working with wood since I was 14 and now do it for a decent paid living. having has a fascination with car stereos since being 16 has led me to being able to install them for a long time and enjoying operation of different machinery has led me to be a mechanic/diagnostician/troubleshooter/installer. and when Im not busy doing that stuff I make an excellent looking interior door.
all because I enjoy what Im doing

Koo, thanks for (paul harvey) "the rest of the story". My pastor is a not an agressive rider, but the Trek 850 that he rides has lasted him 10 years with absolutely no tune-ups...just tires. I want his new bike to be the same way. He rides the same trails that I ride most of the time, just quite a bit slower.

Sounds like he would enjoy the 6500.

I must apologize for my attitude. I generally like to err on the side of overly courteous just because it's difficult to detect the emotion of the one writing the message. I think I just get a little carried away with the J.G. abuse. The forum just wouldn't be the same, eh?

Hey, keep us posted on what happens with the Axel...or how much extra you need to pay for the Minute.

Actually I think all the banter is hysterical. I laugh my a$$ off here every day I'm going to find out what went wrong with the axel fork tomorrow and then I will probably sell it and get a minute or something for a backup......you know, when I have to service the reba" Ill see if I can trade it for the upgrade first. Bike is great though I will probably post pictures of it with the flat bars and both brakes tomorrow. Good luck

I brought the Manipoo fork up to Adams and he said he would warranty it. I got the impression he was going to order the parts and rebuild it in house. I am eager to yield the results Although the reba is on to stay.
