For $350, sheet, the Kommodo has gotta be the sweetest deal on earth for a beginning gnar rider or just someone who wants to do it inexpensively. If I needed the available size and it was the kind of bike I was looking for, I'd scoop that puppy up right now. Total DEAL ALERT on this one, IMO.

Yeah man...if I had the coin...I'd buy the med for a loaner for my homies or a small for when one of my kids gets bigger. It's a great frame to build from too. Similar to my '05, but with a rifled top tube for more clearance, shorter head tube for more OEM fork options, and a little snappier stays. I love mine...I've probably been more satisfied with that frame than any bike I've had to date.

The Syncros bar is one of the sweetest deals I've gotten so far. It feels every bit as good as my EA70, but 2x thicker.

Dayum, I'd love to get that Komodo as a loaner/urban bike if I had the money. Unfortunately I've dedicated my next big bill to a decent chromoly BMX bike so I can start tearing it up at the skate park when it gets too cold to MTB.

^ Go with the Komodo to start tearing it up urban style rather than a BMX. You can still rock a MTB at the park and you'll still have a spare MTB for the rest of the year when you can MTB. Then you'll also have a MTB to ride urban in the spring on those days when it just rained a lot the day before and the trails are too wet. You can always even run the Komodo as a single speed if you really wanted to while you're at the park. Maybe just have two rear wheels for it and run it single speed at the park and throw on a derailer and the geared rear wheel for a 1x9 in the warmer months when you wanna go ride it outside of the skate park or have a friend go MTBing who doesn't have a decent bike.

I love to ride GnarBan MTB. Rollin the Parker 'round town. If you want the Komodo to be a little more park friendly...snag some twinny fo's for it for park days.

Hmm...tempting ideas. Right now I just don't have the mulah for a Komodo, & it will be a few months at best before/if I do. The two main things that appeal to me about a BMX bike are price & the way it feels for park-style riding. I'm looking around the $150 price mark for a decent used bike, maybe $200 at most (& there's a guy in the USAF base about 30 min south of me who's selling an 08 Spec Fuze 3 for $200 negotiable). And 26" is too big for me for park/DJ...I'm a pretty small guy at 5'10 150# & my MTB feels like it just wants to roll right over jumps. 20" feels perfectly natural because that's what I grew up/raced on, but the idea of slapping some 24" wheels on the Komodo intrigues me...

I'll probably still go with a cheaper BMX bike because I know if I get a Komodo I'll drive myself insane swapping parts constantly to swap between loaner MTB & personal park/DJ bike. If nothing else it will give me peace of mind knowing it's just a BMX bike & that's all I have to maintain it as. But maybe if the Komodo is still for sale around Christmas...

Well if nothing else, take that BMX out to the trails one day. I bet it would be fun just to mess around on and see how it does on some singletrack.

I rode the trails in my hometown for around 5 years with only a BMX bike. I loved and still love the small maneuverability it offers. I still have the bike too, mid 90's dyno. All it needs are new brakes and a new rear tire, might try getting it back out this winter. My hometown trails were really wide, however, there is a fairly nice (yet flat) single track where I live now, guess I'll have to give it a go on the old BMX .

Oh yeah, one of my favorite things to do with bikes is cross-use them with different styles of riding. If I could afford it I really would like to give the 24" Komodo idea a try first because that's the one that sounds the most fun to me (of course combined with 3speed's idea to convert it to single speed for park days), but one thing that's been gnawing at me lately is that I quit BMXing when I was 13 & never really got a chance to see what a fully-developed me can do on a BMX track/park. More than anything I'm just curious to see what I'm capable of now.

There's one section in particular about 2 miles into one of my favorite sections at the local trails where you can chose to go over a bridge, or cross the stream that runs through a super rocky/rooty section, & I've always said that if I just had a smaller bike that I could flick around with ease, I could get it no problem.

^ I don't know what the difference between the frames would be, but Jenson has the 09' Komodo for $120, also in the 14" size. I would think you then get some kind of warranty with it buying it new, just in case.

Hm, I (obviously) don't know much about MTB dirt jumping, I just assumed that MTBs would be chromoly since their 20" counterparts are. But I guess the added weight of a full size MTB frame would be enough to make people want options.

^^ In all fairness, a whole LOT of dirt jumper frames, epsecially budget ones, are steel - - and with good reason. A DJ frame is, in a sense, a disposable commodity. It gets the crap flogged out of it mercilessly until it breaks or is retired. Not something you want to do regularly with a $650 frame.

^Makes sense. My friends are the same way with their skateboards. They break about one a week, so they always just buy the cheap house brand decks at the local skatepark.
