going old school
I am debating buying a new Mt bike but goin gold school with a rigid frame..I want to stay in the $1,000 I have a specialized FRS and I hate it heavy slow....I miss my Gary fisher. Any thoughts

Rigid SS... FTW. Buy a used hardtail [mmmm... Stumpjumper], trade the suspension fork for something rigid, BAM you're done.

Monocog flight or Raleigh. These two have the advantage that can be converted from SS to gears if you are not happy with a single speed.
