Giant Brass 1

Okay. So today, I went got a call from Sea Shwinn/Two Wheels, which is off of 17th street in Newport Beach, CA. They said that my order was in. So I went and picked it up. It is a 2009 Giant Brass 1.

It is AWESOME. It is the most comfortable bike I have ever rode. I don't really mind the blue. It is a very strong bike. It is way bigger and way lighter than my Haro BMX bike. Tomorrow, I am going to the jumps over by Estancia High School. I am going to test it out fully...well, as much as I can take. If you havent ever been there, there are all these jumps and rythm trails in the wild four foot wood grass crap. There are also dirt slopes, paved slopes, and dirt trails. I will give more information tomorrow when I finish my ride.

The annoying thing about this bike is that every time I stand up, I change the gears. Also, when I am riding, the front disc brake is lopsided. You probably know the sound THAT makes. And are the front brakes supposed to be weaker than the back brakes?

why are you changing the gears when you stand? grip shift would suit this bike and style of riding well. you should get it switched to grip shift. it does not cost much. is that a sram rear derailleur?

front brakes should be stronger. it came with a bent disc?? a very slight wobble in the disc is okay...

It is a wobbly disc. It changes gears because it is a paddle shift, and my hand position changes when I stand up. I will eventually find a way to stop that akward shifting. But how about the disc? Should I just try to slightly "bend" it flat?

I'm not into that new fangled paddle shift dual clutch crap. Nothing beats an old fashioned 6 speed manual.

Wimp. 4 on the floor all the way. Or 5 speed you shift, because thats the only manual I've driven (in my defense, I've only ever driven two cars)

That thing is pimp, Austin.

Even "sissy blue" looks tough when used properly. Ride the heck out of it!

Oh yeah...hang that bike up with your disc rotor at eye level. Spin the wheel and find where the rotor is out of true. Grab a crescent and straighten it. (wipe clean)

For shifting...try moving the shifters and brake levers inward toward the center and away from the grips a bit. Set it up to where you can "1-finger" (or 2-finger) the brake levers. That should get the shifters outta the way.
Here's how I run mine:

Nice ride, I almost bought one instead of the Spech P3 but they were not out at the time.

Looking at the pic I would suggest you move the shifter and brake inward about 1", it will get it out of the way for when you are jumping. If you need to shift you can just slide your hand over and you only need one finger to pull the lever when braking.

As for the rotor, it is a new bike and should not be bent. Sounds like a crappy build or a bad part, if the rotor is bad then it should be covered under the warranty. Do not hassle with straightening it, get a new one.
If the brakes are adjusted wrong have the shop fix it, most shops will take care of you when you buy a bike from them. If they do not get it fixed the second time then find another shop.

Somehow it seems like the LBS should have straightened the rotor before letting it leave the store...

It is a pretty easy task to straighten the rotor, but the LBS should have done this when building the bike. Take it back to them and have them fix it correctly. You should not accept poor craftsmanship, have them do it right.

Okay. Since I have a lifetime warranty on the frame, 1 year warranty on all parts, and 1 year of service, I am going to take it dj'ing, then bring it to my LBS and see if they can clean it too .

Alrighty. So I just got back from an awesome ride. Jumps and step ups were the main thing this ride. The Giant Brass 1 held up magnificently, however: The casset is off by one gear. I will be on the 7th gear, and it shows that I am on number 6! When I am on number 2, it reads 1. It wont allow me to switch to the first gear at all...even if I hold the "down shift" trigger. Other than that, this is an awesome bike. And for $680! Oh, and I was able to descend a 30 degree slope with ease...but I had to walk it back up . It was always a nice and smooth landing after every jump and stepup.

It was a little wet and soft on some of my favorite parts on the trails and jumps, so we will see if they are dry tomorrow. I hope so!

It sounds as though they through it together a bit fast. That sounds like something you should def. take it in. Looks like a decent bike for the money.

Yeah, whoever built that bike did a lousy job. Take it back and demand that go over everything and make it perfect.

If I let a bike go out of my shop like that, I would be embarrassed.
