Crunch
Soooo....there was this transport vehicle incident last weekend. A 3/4 ton diesel not so stealthily snuck up on another 3/4 ton diesel, and guess whose bike was hanging on the tailgate of the lead truck? If you guessed three other guys' plus me, you'd be right. We managed to salvage that afternoons ride but the upshot is that I need a new fork.
I've been on a range of marzocchis over the past ten years, and I haven't really paid any attention to other companies' offerings. So to you folks who keep up with this sort of thing, what should I consider as a replacement for an 06 Z1 Light (150mm travel, 20mm axle, coil with air preload, hi/lo speed compression adjustment, ETA)? Fork will be going on a 6" travel SX trail with coil shock that primarily sees grinder fireroad climbs followed by aggressive cornering and fast descents. Fork also needs to be able to withstand medium dirtjumps and the occasional mini-huck.
Thanx you in advance for your insightful replie5.

One of the new Sids would be perfect for you!
And who was the nice guy driving the second truck that is buying you a new fork?

RST Storm Lux; air spring, adjustable 120-160mm, rebound and compression damping and 4.8 lbs. claimed. But then, you knew I'd say that.
BTW, that's one reservation I've always had about over the tailgate. Bed too short to just lash 'em in with tiedowns inside?

Lyrik coil.
Decently light, easy to tune, tough and stiff chassis, wide adjustment range with the compression and rebound.
They are also stupid easy to open up and take care of. Oil changes, spring swaps, etc. The travel adjust actually leaves you with useable travel, not the rock hard inch or so that ETA gives you.
Sucky!

There were a couple bent rims and tweaked or broken spokes and some other fork damage I think. The truck the bikes were on had a big ole 4 way ball hitch thing and that saved the bikes from a lot of potential damage. Both trucks were jacked up though, and both drivers slightly rattled.
Doug, I'm no actuary but I'll continue to take my chances with the tailgate pad in the name of convenience and capacity - we had seven bikes + 3 people + gear back there on the day before. lol @ the copy on the RST page btw.
and thanks for the recommendation scrub. I seldom used the ETA for the reason you describe.

I liked the Domain for "that style" of riding. 6.44lbs though. When dropped to 4"...felt a tad oversprung & there was an odd knock. 5" was great...6" was pure buttah. I can only speculate that the Lyrik coil would be equally PIMP on a diet.
I still think the 36VanRC2 is a porn star.

Still kicking.
66 RC3 might be fitting.

Reads like the owners manual to a '68 Suzuki. I marvel that they still have not hired a English-as-a-first-language copywriter.

I have a 66 RC2X already - If I could find a fork approaching that level damping quality and stiffness but a couple lbs lighter I'd be on it like a hobo on a ham sandwich.
Okay, so some followups...
To clarify, Lyrik has no preload adjustment?
The floodgate sounds like it'd be fun to tinker with.
Why would I choose a Lyrik coil over a 36 Van? Ed, have you ever ridden the 36 or do you just think it's sexy looking?

I've "test ridden" the 36 but haven't given it a good flogging. I did some stairs, small hills, and a 3' to flat with it. I liked it. It was on a used SX that had made some rounds, so it was broken in. I thought it was stiff, smooth, and yes...sexy looking I haven't owned one though.
My 32 Van was a good reliable fork for 2.5-3yrs. I'm liking the Float so far, but haven't had it long enough to develop any sort of opinion except for the Honeymoon phase.

cool cool, thanks. It seems that the 36 is purportedly stiffer and a qp lighter than the Lyrik, although at the expense of adjustable travel and the floodgate feature. Hmm.

New guy to all of us. Decently cool XC type. I'm not sure he'll get invited again, though.

I was actually overtaken by the surroundings and attempted NASCAR style bump-drafting.

I'm really sorry I missed all the excitement. Stupid family meltdowns.
