Umm partial fail. While xc hardtails are bound to be 29er's, you'll likely see the longer travel hardtails either stick with 26" or go the 650b route. Then there is the DJ/Street(not commuting street)/Slalom bikes sticking to 26" or 24".

I'm just waiting for more 650b stuff to be made so I can do an all mountain hardtail with a 140mm travel fork with 650b up front and a 26" rear and will likely use a nicolai b-boxx for it.

I was being slightly tongue-in-cheek in my original post, but seriously, is it just me or does anyone else find the idea of a "long travel hardtail" a bit strange? Hardtails, IMO, are best suited for XC trails, not for applications requiring long travel.

Ideally it would be a full suspension, but there's that price issue. For example, an Evil Imperial or Banshee Morphine frame is around $700, while an FS frame might be twice that. There are even a couple of burly complete HT's out there that cost less than an FS frame. Some of it will depend on your riding style too, since a hardtail will be probably be a little lighter.

Ok, thread got cleaned up. Keep it to 29er discussion, no attacks or discussion between the wheel sizes.

But part of the benefit of the 29er is its complete, utter and total superiority over the 26er... how can any discussion be complete without that salient point?

Seriously, you might as well close this thread. It has crossed its "use by" date.

Long travel hardtails are the bomb. Just the absolute bomb.

I ride XC/trail stuff, so I have no personal experience here, but I am genuinely curious - other than the fact that a long travel hardtail would be cheaper, what is the benefit of using one instead of a long-travel full susser? It seems to me that if you need 140+mm of travel on the fork, you'd also appreciate some rear travel.

29'ers are sooooooooooo sweet that I want to crap my pants. I can't believe it sometimes, but I feel it inside my heart. These bikess are totally awesome and that's a fact. 29'ers are fast, smooth, cool, strong, powerful, and sweet. I can't wait to start riding next year. I love 29'ers with all of my body (including my pee pee).
That was beautiful man, it brought a tear to my eye. I haven't thought about that website in years and just like All Your Base, it's still funny after all these years.
