I want to upgrade some parts on my 2008 Norco Mountaineer. What should I do?

I have a 08 Norco Mountaineer that I would like to put some new shifters as well as front and rear derailers on it. Its a 21 speed and I was wondering if it is much trouble to make it into a 27 speed. Also I know I'm better off buying a better bike, but I like the way it handles so I'm thinking that maybe I can order the parts off ebay and just replace the parts I want. Has anyone tried this? I paid $400 CDN for the bike and the main thing for me to change would be the derailers. Any tips would be great. Thanks.

Here is the specs:

Looking at the spec of your bike, the best value for mone option would be to get a new bike.

The specs of the bike is pretty low end, and you don't mention if the rear wheel is cassette or freewheel. if freewheel, then you would need a new wheel for any 'upgrade' . Changing to 27 speed, or 30 which is now becoming standard will be more than a new bike.

For handling, you may like what you have now, but try an new bike with good suspension fork, and it should change your mind about that.
