Finally got to put in some miles on this badboy today and WOW is all I can say. Even with the rear shock in Trail mode it still climbs like a dam mountain goat with little to no bob in the rear end. I found that the only time to lock out the front and rear is on flat smooth climbs other than that it really doesn't need it, it's a beast going up hill. The CTD remote is such a nice touch to an already badass bike. The 32/22 X 36/12 gearing did the job in my neck of the woods as well. Still getting used to the wider bars compared to those on my 26er which were 3 inches narrower than the ones I'm now running. XT 785 brakes do a dam good job at stopping i might add.
Over all performance is mind blowing, can't wait to get out again. Truly an awesome bike glad I have it in my stable.

Looking super sweet by the way. I was seriously looking at an orange Tall Boy, and every now and then I have that... "hmmm, maybe shouldda..." feeling.
I hear you about the bar width, I went from a chopped old school "bush pilot" bar I had on the Epic, to the monster wide bar I now have on the HiFi. It seems to make sense because of the bigger wheel, and you can breath better going uphill, that's my excuse. It did take some getting used to, and you feel like you're going to smash every tree you ride past at first. But eventually, it becomes the norm.

I just got a stock Tallboy LTc (2015 model) and since I'm new to MTB it seems like the handlebar width is huge. Is this a normal "adjustment" that a converting roadie has to go through?

Looking at the stock specs, the R has 740mm, the S 750mm and all others 760mm, all wide, but pretty standard width for 2014/15. riding wide bars, I find it's more noticeable when going back to a road bike with 42cm bars, than getting on a bike with 700mm+ bars.

Tallboy is on my list if I ever make the jump to 29er. You can ship it to me and I will take a couple months to break it in for you! Just another value added service by us moderators! OH yeah, my fee is a case of PBR!

Fine machine you've got there, RICO. Guy on a Tallboy whupped my a** in our first enduro of the season. Mind you, I don't find my SB66 lacking in any way, so it had to have been all in the rider . But Tallboys are definitely impressive.

My bars are 27.5 in and or 700mm and still find them too wide.. which to some seems crazy. I will get used to it and slowly am. Again I came from 24.5 in bars so 1.5 inches on each side feels like a quarter of a mile.
I've gotten over a 100 miles in on this thing and still love it. I wish I had gone to a 120mm fork over the 100mm but either way it's still doing what I wanted it to do. As morbid as it sounds it's almost fun to climb on this thing compared to a 26er.
Still need to weigh it and see what kind of porker it is. Will find out Friday night when I go to the bike shop.
