Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I thought the same. My wife said it was bad and I read the article. 14 victims is bad.

Unsure what the feds will do, but CO tries to send the sex offenders to the same DOC facilities. In the hierarchy of offenses, child sex is the worst and gets you dead.

Nope. But, I've done the conversion on the wheels that come on that bike. So, it won't be a problem if I decide to go tubeless.

If he got in contact with his victims through ads on CL, did the young people place the ads themselves? If not, it seems like he could earn some points testifying against a number of people.

All I got is from this story. Sounds lousy from a defense perspective, but it often does in the press.

The sex cases are the worst. I'd take a dead person over a bad sex case any day and twice on Sunday after the Bears.

Yesterday, I finally began my weekend and I think we made a pretty good job of it. We rode the tandem out to one of the local theaters that has been showing movies with only a $1 admission on Tuesdays and Wednesdays this summer. We saw "The Lego Movie" which was excellent- Lucy/Wild Style is an excellent badass heroine and may become my new style icon- although it made me wonder where someone gets the blocks you need to make Monument Arch for example. For lunch, we rode over to a combination convenience store/gas station that has a Gorilla Grill in it where we enjoyed excellent gyros. (We nearly did some "trail" riding but the weather has been playing havoc with my sinuses and I had a low-grade headache.) So, instead, we came home and watched three episodes of "Death in Paradise" on Netflix. There was some napping (and some not napping. Heh.) Then we had dinner at Brewed: bacon wrapped dates that we shared, a Zenner's dog with bacon, jalapenos and cream cheese for me, and LoP had the jalapeno salmon melt. Finally, we went to another theater and watched Woody Allen's "Irrational Man". LoP thought it was great but I never bought into Joaquin Phoenix's character as irresistible to women and found the acting even stiffer than in "The Lego Movie".

Today, we rode to the grocery store which was pretty fun though not unusual. (I have, for the most part, stopped screaming and/or swearing going down hills fast.) We went to the bike shop and test-rode the KHS tandem they want to sell for $325 but it's not much lighter than our present one and both the front and rear shifting sucked. The highlight of the day was dinner at Pho Ton. LoP had a large bowl of pho. We both had Vietnamese iced coffee and salad rolls with peanut sauce. I ordered a small bowl of pho then changed my mind and went with something I'd only read about online. Bun bo hue has noodles and some beef but it also has shrimp paste and pork hocks. Oh, and blood cubes. Which is to say triangles of congealed pig's blood. I had meant to order mine without blood cubes but I was torn because it seemed like it would be more authentic with them plus I knew I'd be the only person in my family- and maybe in an even larger circle- who'd tried them. As it turned out, I had forgotten to ask to have them omitted and when I stirred the bowl looking for the noodles, two of them popped up. What would Anthony Bourdain do?

Of course, I had a whole one along with some meat. (Although, halfway through the chewing, the blood taste hit me all of a sudden and for a quarter of a second things were iffy.) LoP had a corner of one. Having eaten one and being able to say so, I probably would order my next bowl without them since I couldn't tell they added much to the soup. Still, I'm glad I tried them.

And now, somewhat rested and revived, I get ready to face a far more reasonable five days before my next weekend.

There is nothing awesome about biting into a triangle of congealed pig's blood.

...I beg to differ , good sir. Bun bo hue is one of my regular lunch orders at Coriander, just down the street from the gym where i swim. It is delicious. What is even more enticing is that there is a food co-op across the street, and a yoga studio next door, so when you sit outside next to the sidewalk, there are a lot of distractions. Life is good.

The blood was pretty good, but the flavor really hits you kinda late, pretty gnarly bloody aftertaste. I can't imagine eating a cake of it as big as Ramona did in one bite.

I think ideally you'd take a small bite of blood then grab a bit of pork as soon as the blood taste really hits ya.

I managed to survive the "let's see if we can make the gai-jin turn green" game in Japan, but I'm not sure I could handle the blood cubes.
