Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

weird story

This past sunday a buddy and me (we are both in our 30s) were just finishing a double century charity ride for childrens health. We were wearing our charity jerseys that 100% proceeds go to a local childrens hospital. we stopped at a light, there was an elderly gentleman (around 50) stopped in front of us not wearing a shirt. He was riding a murdered out fixie, quite nice. We said hi and he looked back at us and mumbled something under his breath. I told my buddy i was concerned for the mans health as he may get skin cancer from the exposed sun rays. Before the light turned green the elderly gent ran the red light and screamed "cant catch me suckas" then the light turn green and my buddy and i safely crossed the intersection then suddenly i got a flat. We pulled over and started fixing the flat i looked out about 2 miles and saw the shirtless fella going down a 16% grade hill at around 18-19 mph then disappeared. Very weird

Wow.
That is a weird story.
But the weirdest thing is that I was also there. I was trailing all of you at the light. I know it must have been you three as I heard the old guy say that and then saw one of the younger guys get a flat
right afterwards.
You mixed a couple things up though. The jerseys the younger guys were wearing didn't have any charity's name on them. They simply said N A M B L A. Whatever that means...
And the older guy was definitely going faster then 19 mph as I was going 30 mph and he left me in the dust.
Small world though huh?

Things are definitely getting weird around these forums lately. What's the US government been putting in your water supply? Or is there a full moon coming up? Or maybe the hot weather has been getting to you?

For those that don't get it, this is a "fiction writing contest" following this thread: https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycli...nny-story.html

It has to be fiction.
How else could you explain all of the outrage caused by a shirtless rider lol?

Maybe he had a bag of goatheads to toss on the road before taunting you

20mph down a 16% grade would be SLOW. I have troubles keeping my bike under 30 just coasting down my driveway.

What's weird is you consider 50 to be elderly.

Shirtless is ok as long as you wear some gold chains to make the complete package legit.

That is very weird, I was there too. He didn't mention that they were on e-bikes. I was trying to run the shirtless guy off the road in my hummer, but he was too fast for me.

True story... the only reason I know what N A M B L A stands for is my former Israel / Palestinian Conflict professor was making a point about how anyone can create an organization for just about anything. And what did he use to prove his point: N A M B L A. And who did he select to read their mission statement: Me. I should name blast him just for laughs so this thread comes up whenever someone Googles his name.

Yeah, that shirtless guy was seriously bada$s.
I am not positive but he might just have been Chuck Norris.
Either way I ditched all my peacock spandex jerseys and vowed to go shirtless from that day forward because he was so cool.
It has only been a few days riding shirtless but I have already received several sponsorship offers and a movie deal to play Lance Armstrong.
Go figure

I saw the open casting call for that Lance Armstrong action flick. I was going to go for it but then I saw the bit about having to cut off a testicle... ya know, to make it more realistic for the audience. I'm glad you're up for the challenge. Mutilating your body should give you the shoe-in for Oscar nomination.

Yeah, but shirtless sponsors? Tattoo?

Hope you never change sponsors, and that the never change their trademark. Ouch!

True ... I've been wondering if there was a recent spate of troll escapes of some kind, and they have infiltrated BF.
I fear for BF when winter comes

Many people know about ****** because it was a running punchline on The Daily Show.
