Colnago C50 upgrade?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Colnago C50 upgrade?

Situation: 10-11 year old Colnago C50 built up with Shimano DA 7800 10 speed. Originally built up with DT Swiss hubs on Open Pros (yes, that's how old it is). Frame is still going strong. Used to race on it. But with racing days long behind me, now a bike for solo fast jaunts.

I'm considering a groupset upgrade to DA 9000 11 speed. Wouldn't mind having an 11-28 range. And I could repurpose the DA 7800 to another bike in my stable, which, other than the odd nick here and there, rides great.

Price to do so would be ~ $2k, between groupset + new 11 speed wheels.

Is this worth doing - or for $2-3k or beyond, would you consider a new complete bike with "new" technology Been out the market for about a decade, so a little unclear on what is decent value for money or even state of the art nowadays - and what would be comparable to the build quality/ride of a decade old C50. I see these Colnago CX 0 Evo ubiquitously advertised...comparable?

Many thanks.

Depends how much you want to spoil yourself.

I still ride a 15 year old C40, with a 10 speed Record group set on it and it is great. I won't upgrade it though.

I have a 2015 C60 with Super Record, but use the C40 with granny gears for those races where there are a lot of 10% + climbs in the circuit.

If you don't want the new bling, and you won't want it after you have upgraded the C50, then go for it. On the other hand, once you have done that, in the back your mind, you may always be yearning for a new frame.

BTW, my C40 always seem to attract more complements than the C60 on those big charity cookie rides.

I'd go campy but other than that I don't think you'll get a better looking or riding bike than the C50. You could lose a little weight with a modern frame but if you aren't racing that may not be important.

You already have a great bike and a great groupset.

legendary frame
legendary groupset
legendary wheels/hubs

Spend $100 for some really nice cables, reassembly of bike, and new bar tape.

Or...

Just get a whole new bike (always a good option)
