Typing and posting issues on the 41??

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Typing and posting issues on the 41??

I just upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 and use the latest Internet Explorer. Btw, Microsoft after really crapping on Windows 7 with 8 and trying to atone with 8.1 have created their best OP with Windows 10 IMHO...history repeating itself with Windows 7 after Vista which was a disaster after relatively clean XP. A slight digression but overall very pleased with Windows 10.

This forum of all the forums on the web I post on has turned into a pretty sizable disaster for typing. Comments have been made before about this but this website has gotten so bad with my setup at least, thought I would query the collective with a couple of comments and questions for the computer enlightened.

My workaround for posting here is two fold. I can either type into a MS Word page and copy and paste....or use the Advanced mode like I am right now where I can type my normal speed without hindrance. The regular quick mode of posting is now unusable to me...can't type in it at all because of the lag.

A question is...do the computer literate among us here have a solution? Is it a 'script' interaction between IE and this forum do you know or believe? Is it Windows versus Apple OS based? Do you know what the incompatibility issue is?...again no issue as I type this with in Advanced mode...but the forum is unusable in regular mode.

Thanks for your comments and any advice.

Have you tried another browser? Seems it's a compatibility issue between the MS browser and the forum. I use this forum with both Firefox and Chrome and have no issues. I just tried it with the Edge browser that comes with Windows 10 and I see now what you are talking about.

I've also experience the lag on a new computer with Windows 10. It wasn't just the website, but some video playback was also lagging. If you don't absolutely need it, either uninstall or turn off flash. Once I turned off flash, all was good. I have a website or two that required flash to work, but I'd rather forgoe them then deal with the frustrating lag. I can't remember how to get to the settings to turn it off, but I'm sure you can find it. I am using the Edge browser.

Try Firefox or Chrome with the Adblock Plus extension. You won't see any of those Flash-based ads, or any ads for that matter.

Don't use the latest Internet Explorer (Edge, I think they call it). Use Chrome or something else instead. Not much of anything works well with Edge. Most significantly for me was that my university site and all the things I access there were completely inaccessible with Edge.

I've dealt with the problems you've described since I joined the forum using Windows 7,8, and now 10 using Internet Explorer which is the standard web browser loaded in Windows, I also had the same issues using Firefox. Last week I decided to try Chrome and to my surprise it functions flawlessly with the forum. No longer do I have to copy and paste my post's or log back in every couple minutes. I'm sure there's some setting in the Internet Options folder in Windows to fix the problem but I never figured it out. Just download Chrome to visit the forums, you can still use Edge or Explorer to surf.

C4L, do yourself a favor and create a local account (not an MS account) on that machine and make it an administrator.

I bought my wife a Windows 10 laptop before Xmas, and out of the blue it stopped accepting her password (and took away the PIN option). Even after resetting the password online, it still wouldn't let us in. I Googled the problem, and found page after page of people with the same problem. After trying several solutions, we ended up having to do a full wipe & reset of the machine.

If you have a local admin account, you can at least still get into the machine if the above happens.

Create a Local Account In Windows 10 (Updated)

I use Firefox on my work laptop (Windows XP) and the Adblock Plus add-on works very well for keeping the ads away. I was hoping the Edge browser would have an ad-blocker, but doesn't appear that's on their priority list. Since I turned off flash all seems good, but I might give Firefox a shot due to the adblock.

I have the same problem and have resorted to using Word to be able to type a post also.

My theory regarding the cause of this issue is that it is in fact some sort of malware. Running a malware program AND resetting your IE browser to original settings may cure it. I indicated in a post I started on this very topic that I intended to try this fix on behalf of the other forum members but I have not fulfilled this promise. I have run the malware scan but I just cannot bring myself to reset the browser and lose all my favorites, etc. I reset the browser on another computer recently and it cured the problem I was having, but I had to start from scratch on all the browser setting and it was a pain.

I typed this in the advanced mode and much to my surprise it works without issue. Until this method stops working using the advance mode will be my work around.

If I could go back in time I'd never have installed Windows 10. Problems too numerous to mention. Friends who work as computer techs tell me I made a mistake and I, now, agree.
