Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My new bike

Well not entirely new. But Cannondale deemed a cracked rear drop out on my 12 year old CAAD7 to be a manufacture defect and replaced the frame with a brand spanking new 2015 CAAD10.

I had to buy a new front derailleur and bottom bracket, and I paid the LBS to swap over the other components, so I am a few hundred dollars out of pocket. But I was stunned that Cannondale replaced the frame; I would have been satisfied to get some amount of discount on a new bike.

Pretty sweet, might need to tilt the nose of that saddle down a bit?

Some Brooks saddles (B17?) have to be pointed up to be comfortable. That's the way they are designed.

But that begs the question, why Brooks on a CAAD10? To each his own and it is a very nice bike at a sweet price.

I have an '83 Cannondale ... I wonder what they'd give me if I cracked a dropout and sent it in?

Correct, Brooks saddles often need to be titled up for tne actual seating ares to be level. in this case its a Swift, but I also have a Pro on another bike that does the same thing.

As to why, sometime ago, I went to all leather saddles on my bikes because they are comfortable, they look cool, and I am old. I am considering a change in this case because carrying around the extra 1/2 lb over a synthetic saddle seems no quite right on this bike.

Nice looking frame and good for Cannondale! And don't let these internet bike fitters and saddle analysts sway you. If you found a saddle that works for you keep it!

Great looking bike and you gotta love being the original owner. I like having a warranty and only once has it been useful but it does pay off. 12 years is a long time and a lot can happen. I bet this one goes longer.
