Giant-Shimano kit - original vs replica?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Good point; not too many dads fit that description...

If I asked for the kit, I would be disappointed with the replica. Why don't you ask your dad for a link to specifically what he wants. You might find that he is thinking of the replica.

In my opinion, the replica jersey would probably fine, but the shorts would be a big gamble for a replica. Also, I would consider buying from someplace you could easily exchange what you bought for a different size.

here's what you need to worry about:

1. chamois on the shorts. the genuine kit may require you to pay out the ass, but the quality is real. the chamois will be higher quality and will last a long time. on the other hand, the chamois on the replica might not be very good, as in it's soft, mushy, and doesn't rebound as much as the genuine kit, or it doesn't work well with your skin and causes chafing, which means it won't be as comfortable for long rides.

2. fit. the genuine kit would be race cut, meaning it's designed to fit the body of a lean cyclist. Most people are more suitable for the club kit, which are more baggy. if the guy is fit and rides competitively, and has the form, then the genuine kit would be better. if the guy is more of a recreational rider, then replica would probably be more suitable.

3. size. replicas can come from asia, and their fitting system is different. find out the guys' jersey's pit to pit measurement, and match that to the size you're purchasing for the jersey and shorts.

that's all.
