2017 Fuji Roubaix 1.0 SL LE or 2018 Fuji SL 3.1
Ive narrowed down my next bike purchase to these two bikes.
What would you guys/girls get. One is aluminum with better wheelset, one is fuji’s Lowest grade carbon.
Here are the links. I am able to get them at the same price, so don’t take dollar amount into consideration.

My advice is to ride both, and see how each frame responds. That being equal, I would go with the Roubaix Elite. The Oval 724 wheelset is very underrated (I've had my set for a couple years and have been very happy with them; for reference, I've also owned and run Reynolds Assaults, Reynolds Strike, and Dura Ace c24s setups). Plus, you'll be getting a better drivetrain with the Roubaix as well. While the Oval/Praxis crankset is pretty good and stiff, the Ultegra crankset is lighter.
FYi, keep in mind that that Roubaix SL frame is an LE model, and is actually the previous generation Roubaix frame. The current generation Roubaixes are compact geometry, and look much more like the SL frames.

Thanks for the info on the Roubaix SL frame. Yeah assumed it was the same. Good to know.

That makes a huge difference. I have test rode the SL carbon models. I see on the website that the sizing is much different for the LE’s. Although I was excited about the upgraded wheelset, I can’t be sure about the frame. Thanks for the reply!!!

I have actually owned both the last generation Roubaix and the current gen SL, and I ride a Med on both, as the ETT is pretty close on both. Don't know what size you're looking at.

I was looking at the 56cm, stand over is a bit different. Offhand I cant remember the top tube and reach difference, but I like having enough stand over clearance and the LE is pushing it for me.

I’m able to get this bike for $1,100 after some hard negotiations. I think I will jump in it. Any thought on SL C5 Carbon vs Roubaix aluminium?
Thanks for everyone’s responses!

No better or worse, just different. Even the low level C5 is a nice frame as far as carbon goes, I like the construction of the SL frames. The C5 is only 150 grams heavier than the C10. I'm actually not a huge carbon fan but I almost bought one of these a few days ago, I just already have too many bikes. The part specs are perfect for me and it even looks like the wheelset is nice with butted spokes. I wouldn't have had to change almost anything, even the BB is a Praxis conversion and not press fit. Butted spokes are a pet peeve of mine I must have and they usually come on only high end bikes. $999 is the best deal you're going to find for an Ultegra bike like this.

The place sold me a bike and said they had shipped it, then a week later after the. Allied they said the bike wasn’t available anymore. So they offered me a few bikes at a deep discount and that was one of them. So it’s not really an open deal. Sorry.

I can vouch, I have been racing on a 2016 Roubaix (same frame as your looking at) and really like it, if you’re worried about weight, the frame is just under 1200 grams so comparable to other nice aluminum bikes (Caad, emonda, etc). As for the ride, very snappy and stiff. Whichever bike you go with you also get money back towards accessories and stuff to.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will go with the carbon frame, but I am always 2nd guessing myself as I really like aluminum bikes. I think the carbon frame should be lighter than the aluminium, not that I’m a weight weenie, but if they are the same price I guess I should go with the ‘better’ material if it’s lighter. I tried contacting Fuji regarding the frame weight of SL 3 series bikes, but they wouldn’t give me one. They said they only have frame weights of frames they sell individually (Roubaix, SL 1, etc). I call BS.
If I go from what their website says it would be close as the 3.1 actually weighs more than the Roubaix 1.1. Hard to tell with different wheel sets though.
On another note does anyone know what the better wheelset is Oval 327 or Vera Corsa dpm27? I would assume the 327’s are slightly better. Either way I would be upgrading the wheelset eventually.

FOr sure i think the Roubaix has s a better value. I would have no need to upgrade wheels with the 723’s. It’s just a weird size for me. I ride a 56cm, but the stand over is really high on the Roubaix and I like to have a little clearance. If it was the same size as the 2017 and 2018 models I would have already bought it. I would be a little to cramped on the 54, although I could put a longer stem on there.
Thanks for your relplies!

I got the 3.2 for $999 and Im planning on upgrading my Vera Corsa dpm27s. What would you recommend? Do you know anything about the Chinese carbon wheels off of eBay?

I would go with the SL 3.1. I would rather have the Ultegra brakes. You can always get better wheels. I have a 2016 SL 2.3 and absolutely love that bike. My first "real" road bike was a 2013 Roubaix 1.5. Great bike but I think you will enjoy the SL better. The carbon frame does make a difference.
Good luck and post pictures.

Best bang for the buck would be if you can find a set of Oval 724 or 733 take offs. Those are very good wheels and people tend to undervalued them due to the lack of name cache. After that, some of the Reynolds offerings from PB are good deals, as well.
