Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Don't be silly!

That claim has been refuted beyond belief. I can go into why the wheels 'exploded' but the skinny of it was that the early gen hubs sometimes allowed the blades to come together which leads the blades to loose their tension and the wheel colapses.

This was fixed with new hub designs and they have no problems.

If you actually look at the numbers of wheels that are out there (they were in production for around 10 years), and the reports of catastrophic failure, it is actually exceedingly low.

They have basically remade the Rev X in the Mad Fiber wheelset, using a similar principle of blades that are attached to the rim and using the hub to force them apart creating the tension in the blades.
But the new design is much more advanced, using modern bonding techniques to significantly reduce weight.

Thanks for the concern though!

They ride great! I am very happy with them, although my LBS had to do a good amount of truing and retentioning right out of the box. The front was not trued and had serious tensioning variances, rear was in better shape but still needed some work. But, all good now! They are surprisingly smooth and handle bumps great.

Not mine, but my Dad was gifted my Trek hybrid when I got my road bike. He got the bug too, so he just picked up this very gently used (500 miles) 2004 CAAD5 R600.

Seems like aero bars would not be too comfy when they're same height as saddle. I'm guessing that's the smallest size frame that bike comes in ???
