Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Training with different levels of ability

I just did a hill repeat ride with friends of varying ability and I have to say that it was one of the most successful training rides we've done. Everyone was happy with the workout, nobody got dropped (well, we don't drop anyone anyway) and we all stayed together (within a mile, anyway). I found that I could hammer up a hill, turn around and meet others all the way down to half-way up the hill. I got in a harder workout than some, less hard than others, but I was really happy with the results.

The best part is that all the hills (which include some of the longest/steepest in Austin) are in my neighborhood. I'm beat, but I'm home!

Sounds like you need to hook up with waterrockets so you can be the one struggling up the hill in his wake...

I tried once but his group ended up going a different way. Of course, the only thing that would keep me within a mile of waterrockets is hill repeats. He'd do 5 and I'd do one in the same time. The PT numbers he's quoting are remarkable. I don't think I could get one of those to register at all...

Far West and Ladera Norte. We threw in once down/up Mesa Dr. for variety.
