Full carbon saddles, anyone riding one?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Full carbon saddles, anyone riding one?

I have always been curious about them and picked up a ControlTech Carbon Comp Saddle on *bay:

Didn't get a long ride in on it tonight (after making dinner, cleaning kids' rooms, mounting saddle, etc., etc.) but after 15 miles I was shocked at how uncomfortable it wasn't!!

Anyone else ride something similar and what do you think about it. I was really overwhelmed at how the total lack of padding felt.

I used to have a Tune Concorde.

It was about as comfy my favourite first generation Selle Italia Flites.

A good saddles (for you) is about as hard a thing to find as there is. Your ass might like the Controltech, it might not. If it doesn't, then it's on to something else until you find something your ass likes.

What happened to your tune?

Yeah OP you should find that shape is much more important than padding.

You shold have more than enough padding in your chamois.

I bought a cheapo Edge all carbon off eBay for my SS 'cause it matched my gold paint & was 120g. Amazingly, I really like mine as well. Now my SS rides are usually 30 mi or less, and I've never had it on a long ride, but it's comfy for these short rides.

Having a place to live takes precedence over having a nice bike to race.

I've got 2 NOS that I can't bear the thought of using. They've achieved jewel status.

Carbon SLR. Two of 'em. I would have 'em on all of my bikes except for money.

I'm running a carbon SLR as well - best saddle I've ever had by far. Took a couple rides to get used to but now there's no way I could switch.

I'm not necessarily looking for something to replace my Selle SMP Stratos, I've just always been curious about the full carbon saddles. No padding is just so counter intuitive.

Perhaps, I think I'll give it a couple of long rides and see what happens. Nothing like an experiment

Yeah, but if you can get past that *some* of them work so well.
I had an Aspide Arrowhead, and something about the shape hit me really, really well. As a matter of fact, if I were just road racing I'd still call it my favorite saddle.

I couldn't TT in it (rotating fully onto the nose made my fussy bits pass out) so I traded it out for an Arione that I could use in more positions - but for a road racing saddle? man, the little-to-no-padding saddles I've used tend to do really well for me.

Do you want to get rid of one of those? (PM??) I use them a lot. Put almost 5K on my used one last year. My ass likes em but not past 100 miles it seems. Ass has limits I think.

I have ridden the Carbon Evolution flites to the store in jeans 12m RT. Even without the Shammy it is still comfortable.

First time I ever saw an all-carbon, sub-100g saddle in the flesh it belonged to a fellow cycle club member. Naturally, the first question everyone asked him was "is it comfortable?" His response was "I can ride on it all day.

...The problem is, I then can't ride the next day!"

Check the specs on that saddle, it might have the torque listed on there. If you don't have a torque wrench then take it to the shop because you don't want to over tighten carbon rails; metal is more forgiving, carbon not so much.

Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure it's 5-7Nm. A lot of the torque specs for different components, talking carbon stuff, (brakes, stem, bars, etc.) are around 5Nm.

Relax, if it hasn't cracked already, you're probably good to go. Those rails are what, 9.2mm thick (I'm just guessing 9.2mm on your saddle)?

As long as you aren't totally torquing the bolt, you are probably somewhere in the vicinity of 5-7Nm already.

On my second one, now. Ripped the first one, almost in two, when exiting a pothole at ~ 26 mph. Danged expensive to replace!
