Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano R086. They're not crabon, but they've served me well. I like the fit, and they're comfy enough for long rides.

Specialized Pro Road. I am on my second pair (2008 version), and the fit is no where near as good for me as my first pair (2004 version). I plan to replace them early next year.

Lake CX330C. Awesome shoes, though my feet are getting awfully cold with the change in weather due to their highly functional ventilation. I don't normally need to wear shoe covers in October, but I do this year.

Carnac Quartz. Bought my first pair in fall of 2003. Still using them, although they may have to be retired when spring rolls around. Flat out the most comfortable cycling shoes I've ever worn.

They're heavy (by cycling shoe standards) but right out of the box they fit snug without pain, and I could go for a 4 hour ride without knowing I had brand new shoes on. I've got one more brand new pair in a drawer at home. Once I wear those out, I'll have to find something new, but that shouldn't be for another 4-6 years.

Near as I can tell, Carnac shoes are very difficult to find in North America these days.

'09 Specialized Road BG comp w/Look Keo Sprint. They also assist very well in correcting my flat feet. Love them. The comp is an 8.5/10 stiffness rating. Just the right balance between $ and performance.

Will be getting some MTB BG Comp for riding in the snow this winter (with my neoprene shoe covers) to go with the new Specialized FSRxc I'm getting next week. Snow riding will be awesome this year.

GL in your shoe shopping.

I have the Speciallized BG Pro, which are super comfy, 41.5. I also have the Sidi Ergo 2, 42. These are much lower volume than the Specialized shoes, so there's less toe wiggle room. I may try to go up a half size, or maybe try the mega's.

Sidi Genius 5
Sidi Carbon 5.5
Demoing a pair of Bont a-one. Super stiff (reminds me of the Duegi 101) and after heat molding fits like my Birkenstock. Definitely ordering these.

I was using Sidi Ergo 2's but I'm selling them, they're too narrow. I'm going back to Shimano shoes they seem to fit better.

Spec. Pro Carbon from a few years ago. Nice & wide, fit well. Seems even the dogs like them... as chew toys, unfortunately.

I'm thinking my next shoe will be the S-Works Road with the boa closure. Hopefully they come in a worse flavor than the Pro Carbons.

I've been using Nike Altea II for a few years. I really like them, but they are starting get really worn, and I need to get something new myself. I may buy Nike again, or I am looking at some Sidis.

Sidi Genius 5.5, Adidas Adistar Race, Nike Poggio II, Northwave MTB shoes, and I still have my Detto Pietro's with leather soles and nailed in cleats from 1983.

I just threw out my original pair of clipless shoes: Looks from 1990. I had been using them in spin class, but the entire sole separated from the upper on my left shoe while pulling up on the upstroke.
