Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

i don't listen to music while i'm riding, however, sometimes a tune gets in my head and doesn't get out (earworm). imagine 3 hours of the same tune over and over and over. and it sucks when it's a tune i don't even like.

For me, it is "Push the Tempo" by Fatboy Slim and "Sandstorm" by Darude - honorable mention to Tiesto "Parade of the Athletes" and "Control" by Halcyon.

I have a playlist of 70s disco, seriously. BeeGees, Rod Stewart, and a few others which piss me off so bad they make me want to ride harder, the suffering of listening to the music is worse than riding.
On the other end heavy bass stuff like Torture Me and Suck my Kiss from RHCPs work well too.

Hey, I resemble that remark!

See my Cycling Playlist on my Public profile; virtually nothing after 1980, and much before 1950.

brutal riding calls for brutal music, which is why you need:

amon amarth- death in fire https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xo7...-in-fire_music

if you want something with more of an electronic influence, there is always japans take on death metal.

blood stain child - freedom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oi-8xl7uZs

if you want an all out electro banger then some MSTRKRFT remixes are in order

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6uAiZMA0k0

This one makes me really dig deep and push

ghostface killah - the champ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klByHG-dKR4

just to throw out a few

No, just senile. In traffic or when you're looking to just enjoy the ride is not the time to push yourself to your limits or listen to anything posted here.

There's this gizmo called a "trainer". Even if you ride with training DVDs sometimes it's better to supply your own music.

Hi vk,

Though I might seemingly have dismissed the idea of "push" songs, I am a believer. This morning, while feeling good and nowhere near in serious hurt, I was at a stoplight with a mile of unimpeded "push" flat road ahead. A good push song came on the I-pod (What is Life - George Harrison). I re-started it for the road ahead as soon as the light changed.

IMO push songs are effective performance-enhancers and leave no tell-tale residues in the blood stream.

Anything off of Lamb of God's Wrath (or the rest of their albums, I'm just obsessed with this one right now)
"For The Workforce, Drowning," by Thursday
Anything by Mastodon
Street Sweeper Social Club, if you're into more hip hop stuff
White Light, White Heat, White Trash by Social Distortion
The Prodigy is always a good choice for the more techno-oriented, as is Daft Punk and Groove Armada
Rammstein is always fun
"Drumroll (We're All Thirsty)" by P.O.S.
"Do The Rump" by the Black Keys
The Gaslight Anthem is good for modern, straight up rock, as is Built To Spill

And you will never go wrong with Puppets-era Metallica

Other than perhaps "Am I Evil" and "Orion", I dont find Metallica to be as great at pump-me-up for riding (although they are my favorite band and "One" was what I used to listen to before sparring matches way back when). Rammstein actually works better for cycling. Speaking of Priest (wow - hardly find any fans anymore), Nightcrawler is also a good one.

That being said, while metal is ok for climbs and tempo riding, when it comes to droping the hammer at 400W, nothing like electronica, atleast for me.
